Quote from: "couper"I'm halfway between the 'Junk' Bro's. off I-44. Went to a classic/streetrod show up there in your area near the quad cities a couple-three years back. Really had a ball. The trip up and back was as much fun as the show.

Lance, you are alive.   What a great year you have had.

PS for those of you who did not notice, Lance won a NSRA award, and had a feature story and pictures of his car in "Street Scene" magazine.

John

Thanks John.
We've been working on my house and shop 'till it got too cold around here, so haven't been on the computer much at all.
Yes, we DID have a great summer! I obviously used up my 15 minutes of fame for many lifetimes!
I was truly humbled when NSRA did a story on the coupe last summer, not to mention the award in Louisville...sure made my family and friends proud.
The highlight though, is my son and future daughter-in-law asked to use the coupe as their getaway car during their wedding in Colo. next June! (and happens to co-incide with the Pueblo NSRA show!) dumb luck.

Rodder's Roundtable / Air Ride and Cold Weather
January 17, 2008, 07:49:22 PM
I run mine all winter from deflated to 70+ lbs. Ran 'em sunday. It was 20 dgs. I wouldn't worry about it. Possible moisture in the air pump, solenoid valves or lines might be the only trouble maker I suppose.

Rodder's Roundtable / Rebuild a leaf spring?
August 17, 2007, 04:01:44 PM
Quote from: "enjenjo"lots of variable here. The condition of the spring to begin with is only one of them. If all else fails, as long as the leaves are not broken, they can be retempered. Rearching old springs is not always successful, unless they are retempered.
I still have my old 34 springs, and plan to build a 34 2 dr standard sedan for Kristy, so....just out of curiosity, what do you suppose a spring shop would charge to re-arch AND temper a pair of springs compared to buying a new pair? I never thought to ask nor did they offer tempering. Good point

Rodder's Roundtable / Rebuild a leaf spring?
August 15, 2007, 07:10:52 PM
Jaybee, I think the age of the spring is an important factor. I had my original 1934 rear leafs re-arched only to have them both flatten out within a month. The old metal fatigued. (one side worse than the other). I ended up buying a pair of identical replacement springs with sliders from posies. They've been perfect.

I have a pair of Megs on my coupe that are oval, angle beveled in at the bottoms and with a rolled outer edge. I've got 2 1/2 in. pipe all the way from the headers through Mustang GT mufflers. Personally, I think it's got a great sound (not like a rapping cherry bomb glasspack pop). but rather a deep throated rumble.
I don't remember who I bought them from, seems like it was a vendor like 'Yearwood' at the nationals for around 25.00 or 30.00 a piece.
Surely Megs would have a website you could buy direct from by now?.

Rodder's Roundtable / Congrats to Couper
August 06, 2007, 07:27:25 PM
Thank you fellas. Getting congrats from my peers and friends means more to me than I can describe. It beats the hell out of any award... anytime, anywhere.
Most times, besides our spouses, our biggest supporters can be our parents, no matter how old we (and they) get. My  Mom & Dad were no exception. Before dad died on fathers day 03', he drove the coupe for the first time with a big teethy grin. THAT was the proudest father/son moment I can recall. I wish he could have seen it in the magazine, and a few days ago too. Bittersweet.

Rodder's Roundtable / Lville
August 06, 2007, 04:38:10 PM
Left L'ville at 4:20pm et, got home 10:20pm cdt. Had a carnival semi/trailer blow a dually right in front of me, scattered debris on the coupe frontend, but can't find any damage. Saw a crotch rocket catch on fire just east of St. Louis. Traffic was a real bear for a sunday evening for some reason.

Quote from: "40" WOW is it HOT!!   101 degrees out and still climbing! It was 105 here yesterday and the humidity is horribly high also! I chickened out and headed home early this morning instead of going to the fairgrounds and then driving home in the afternoon heat. The numbers were up as was the quality.....but,the show is critically close to outgrowing the facilities. It was a great $$ move by GoodGuys to increase the cut-off to 72 but seems like the additional cars are cramping the venue.....I left the motel at 5AM on Saturday morning and was still in line for an hour only to find the fairgrounds already full when I finally got in.I heard one guy say he left the bar before it closed and was in line before 1AM....said he still had a few cars ahead of him   Was good to see everyone...... Bob K and I took a tour of an awesome  private car collection on Friday night then had a nice dinner at CHIPS.....Thanks for the company! Maybe Bob will post a few photos when he gets time. Never did come across UglyOlds......maybe next time!
Enjoyed our visit Daryle. Sorry it was short. Thanks for the invite to the car collection, but as you saw, my hands were full of relatives and 10 yr. old boys!. I saw where you were parked saturday up on the hill but did'nt spot you around.
I left saturday afternoon, got back home around midnight.

Rodder's Roundtable / Americruise 2007
July 02, 2007, 04:03:28 PM
Quote from: "Mikej"It was good to see Daryle and Lance. Sorry we missed Bob. Plenty of nice cars. Nice weather this year. Last year it was 103. My battery went dead and had to find jumper cables. You would think car guys would have a set. Nope. My wife ran down a golf cart that was running around and they helped us out. It turns out that it was the brake lights that had been on all day. I found it Saturday night when the garage was lit with a red glow. It was missing the return spring. Easy fix. That is the first time in 7 years that it hasn't started. I think I will put the jumpers back in the car. I took them out last winter. Didn't think I would need them anymore.
We're not planning on Des Moines but may change our mind.
Good to see Daryle, Josh and you too Mike. Like Daryle said, great weather.
We stayed 'till 5pm or so. Was disappointed there was not a parade of cars through town like a few years ago. Guess that's another thing I missed about the old Americruise. Went downtown that night, cruised 'O' street, ate at a micro-brewery. Had a great time. Left for Springfield early sunday morning. Broke a motormount sometime over the weekend. Shift lever moves to the right under torque like an Atari joy stick now. Made it home though. Will change out tonight.
I'll be heading to Des Moines early friday am. 6-7 hour trip probably. See ya'll then.

Actually, Daryle, yes we are!
We talked about it last night, didn't have any plans we couldn't change, found a room at the Super 8 out on west 'O' st. on the internet. Talk about spur of the moment!. I just put the coupe up on jacks to grease 'er up and give her a once over. Will pack tonight and hit the road after work tomorrow. Probably won't get there soon enough to register but will try. (is Josh your grandson I met a couple years back?) Hope to meet some of you other guys too. I'll be in my 34 chevy 3w dark blue/purple with missouri tags. Look me up.
Quote from: "40"Bob(34 Ford)....Thank You very much for the offer but the wife found us a room out near the Airport.....If I wasn't so damned busy.....Perhaps I could spend a little more time on the computer! Josh and I plan to arrive Friday morning but have decided to stay just through the afternoon on Saturday. We decided to sell our house and are going to give it a try without a realtor this time around so I'll be hosting an open house Sunday   I really look forward to seeing your car! Will they be having a Cruise Night at that Culvers near your house on Friday Night again this year??Not sure I can find it but I'll try.

Bob(BTRC) Sorry you're not going to make it this year. How was the 50's?Sure hope we run into each other sometime this Summer! Des Moines??

Tom,Too bad you and Sue can't make Lincoln but I'll look for you guys in Des Moines!

Lance,I think Rod&Custom is still a major sponsor but not sure if they own the event or if Family Events still has it.Will you be in Lincoln? If not,see you in Des Moines for sure!

Who operates Americruise now? Is it Rod & Custom again or the other promotional company that did it for a couple years there? Haven't been back since things fell apart around 03 or 04 (?)

Rodder's Roundtable / Louisville nationals

Just to clarify, when I said 'squat' a couple posts back, I mean for that day only. Making my nest if you will. Next day, it starts all over again.
This whole thread reminds me of a specific line in Ricky Nelson's 'Garden Party'.

AFI's top 100 movies was on TV last night. 'American Graffitti' was about 50th or so mid-way through the program. Tim Allen of Home Improvement fame was interviewed with his 32 deuce in the background.
Well, that's about it for me for a while.
40, hope to see you in Des Moines.?
