Rodder's Roundtable / Chevy C1500 5 speed trans swaps?
December 03, 2012, 10:55:04 AM
My daily driver (1998 Chevy C1500, V-6 with a 5 speed) trans took a dump yesterday. I believe it has the Getrag trans in it. Does anyone here know if any of the other 5 speeds are a bolt in replacement? Thanks, guys.

Does anyone out there have the dimensions of a Sanden 508 A/C compressor with serpentine belt? I need the measurement of the rearmost surface of where the belt rides to the inside of the front mount, and the measurement between the mounts. The compressor that I'm referring to is the universal compressor with the mounting ears. Thanks, Fred

Rodder's Roundtable / 700R4 shifts at too low RPM
May 02, 2009, 12:04:52 PM
I recently installed a 700R4 in my coupe and I am very happy with it. Last night, I noticed that on hard acceleration, it shifted at only 3500 RPM. That's 2500 RPM lower than my redline. I believe it has been that way since I put the trans in the car. I suspect the problem lies in the TV cable adjustment. Anyone know for sure? is the cable too loose or too tight?
I checked the cable adjustment. it seems OK. The shifts seem to be good, just shifting at too low an RPM under full throttle. Any suggestions?

I happened upon a web site that offers a free Windows based program that may be of help for anyone that needs to bend tubing to a specific demesion. Check it out at: http://www.midmoracing.com/bendit.htm

My daily driver is a 98 Chev C1500 pick up that I bought new. The truck has gone thru 3 RF tires in the last year or so. All failed due to belt slippage. I have inspected the front end and found no problems apart from just a trace of play in the pitman arm. I had it aligned by a local reputable shop, they couldn't find any problems (apart from the pitman arm) either. The tires have a good wear pattern and it drives nicely. The only thing that I notice that is suspect, is when performing a tight turn, forward or back, you can feel the front tires side slipping. That is to say, it feels as though the tires are trying to roll off the bead. The front of the truck will lurch sideways slightly when this happens. I suspect that the Ackerman is off, causing the wheels to track in the wrong arc. I don't believe there is any adjustment for this, am I right? The truck has never been wrecked in any manner and as I stated earlier, I am the original owner. Any Ideas?

Rodder's Roundtable / Anyone know where the....
November 03, 2007, 02:38:43 PM
My wife has a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer with the inline six in it. I am having trouble finding the fuel filters' location. After searching underneath the car and in the engine compartment, I can't find it anywhere. I'm beginning to think that Chevrolet hid the filter in, perhaps, my attic. I'll never find it in that mess! Anyone know where it's hidden?

Anyone know what s-10, s-15 4 cylinders will accept a distributor? I want to use a battery type, stand alone ignition, no computer.

Well, maybe not the best time, but certainly among the top ten. Hopped in the coupe yesterday AM and headed North to attend the annual Black Dog Garage BBQ and gathering of the faithful. Tom Pesula is the owner of the Black Dog garage. He with help of a number of his cronies threw another event of staggering coolness at his world class home garage. I don't know exactly how many were in attendance, I would guess somewhere between a whole slew and a big ol' mess of rodders. Many way cool cars were present, both old familiar units and several brand new unseen by these old eyes. All so very cool. Of course the ubiquetis Granddadeo was present. The BBQ food was fantastic but the best part of the whole she-bang was the guys in attendance. Everyone a hard core rodder. Cars ran the gamit of customs, muscle cars, but far and away the style most represented was the street rod. It was so nice to mingle with your honest-to goodness peers. Most car events don't offer this feature and it made for a very special event. Present, were many of the legends of Florida rodding. Thanks again to Tom and all the rest of the crew that made this such a special, special event. Fred Baum

Anyone here ever adapt VW type III disc brakes to early Ford (1947) spindles. Seems that I vaguely recall  kits to do this in the late 60's or 70's. Anyone got any info or ideas?
