Rodder's Roundtable / RE. 64 Comet MPG
December 14, 2009, 04:59:11 AM
:D  Thanks Guys for all the help/suggestions. It got to the point I picked up on a used/rebuilt Ford carb. After pulling the original I noticed the plastic internal flow adapter was burned/melted so bad it had a hole in it. Replaced the carb, cracked exhaust manifold, vacume choke for electric and WALLA! 22+ MPG. Also found a site that had all the stats on it. It does have self adjusting brakes on all 4 corners. All is good. :D  :D  Thanks again for the help and suggestions. Merry Christmas to all.

This thing has the original 170 cu. in. 6 with a 2 speed auto trans and the 1 bbl carb. After a complete tune up I'm getting 10 1/2 mpg. :( . Did these things come with auto adjust brakes? The pedal is right at the top and hard as a rock, (no power assist) just alot required to stop. I have problems trying to get info elsewhere. Any ideas/help is muchly appreciated. :)

Rodder's Roundtable / 64 Mercury Comet alternator
October 30, 2009, 05:55:27 AM
Got the alternator installed and wired. IT WORKS! I used a 3 wire GM and it works very well. I'd like to thank Frank and all for their wiring tips and criteria.  :)

Trying to get the 2" stud out of the head. It's rusted pretty good. Tried all I knew but can't get it loose. Any ideas what will penetrate and or lube it up so I can get it out? I'm not looking forward to pulling the head if I don't have to.

Picked up a 64 comet 404 the other day. It.s got the original 170 cu. in. I'd like to eliminate the generator and go to an alternator. Years ago I had all the change over criteria but have since lost it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Every day is beautiful, some just a little more than others

Rodder's Roundtable / 38 chevy steering gears
May 19, 2009, 12:13:27 AM
Glad to be back, Years ago someone from "the table" sold me some 39 steering gears .(for shipping cost) brain gas, I don't remember the guys name. I thank you immensly. they went right in n are better than the replacement ones from vintage chevy. I love my original steering wheel. (rebuilt of course). Made a dash panel from common 1/4" alu. Wash it with acetone n a paint brush n the scratches are so bad it's ugly. Just got some 6061 plate and going to go for it. I'm not into "buying" my ride. I either make it or it doesn't get it.        Every day is beautiful, some just more than others. :D
