Rodder's Roundtable / Re: Brakes?

Quote from: "58Apache"I changed the pads once on my 96 Astro van. Those rotors, spindles and calipers seemed massive. I know they are anti-lock, but I wonder if you could put them to use?

No doubt about it. I suppose you could also utilize the antilock feature if one was inventive enough to use all the necessary sensors and such. You could slam on the brakes in a downpour and actually drive straight  into what ever you put the brakes on for.

Quote from: "tom"......... a '96 gmc mini van with 4.3.  engine is seized. is there much i should hang on to for rod use?  thanks

trans for sure, tilt wheel?
brake booster/pedals,etc.
kinda depends on what you need or can sell
n      I`ll try this again, I used an 89 S10 frame under my 39 Pontiac, it goes down the road like you were driving an S10 with a 350 in it. real sweeet. I would recommend it to anyone that may have an old beater that needs a new floor in it(frame shape is different than car). Even the front clip is very useable. :D

Rodder's Roundtable / I need a 39 chevy frame
March 07, 2004, 12:19:49 PM
I`m in the process of finishing a 39 Pontiac coupe(25 series same as Chevy deluxe) I used an 89 S10 frame, It worked perfectly. The frames are easily shortened if you need to alter the wheelbase. The only hang up is you have to rebuild the floor to clear the kick up at the rear of the frame. By the sound of it you will probably be doing that anyway due to the frame rusting away, It had to take some of the floor too.But if you insist on using a 39 frame you can have mine it is in good shape. I sold a lot of the original front suspension, but I think you would probably update the front clip anyway(mustangIIor Nova).I live in the western Ny area if you happen to know anyone coming my way :?:

Hi all, been lurking here for years, thought I`d take the opportunity to give you some of my background. I am currently 54years old and am currently a NYS Corrections Officer.(2nd career)Years ago I recieved my Associates degree in Civil Technology, worked as a " Field Engineer' for Republic Steel Corp for 13 yrs. It closed down and I recieved my retirement money in a lump sum.($2500)I bounced around as a Project Manager for various companies for 12 years.I took the test and became a Corrections Officer in 94.I`ve always been interested in cars of various styles and types. Back in the 70`s I got into SCCA road racing.Raced in their new class called Showroom Stock,I did that until 1981 with reasonable success. Went to the National run offs at Road Atlanta in `77&78. Finished 4th in the country in 78. I have traded my interest in sports cars to street rods. I am currently building a 39 Pontiac Coupe, I plan on putting it on the road this spring and take it to various cruises in the area and some shows. :D
