Rodder's Roundtable / woodward dream cruise
July 21, 2006, 01:46:07 PM
I live about 5 miles from Hickory Grove and Woodward.  Purple is right, that is a sparse area, most cars will be north or south.  Pontiac is actually a pretty cool place to go for the cruise.  Woodward does the Loop in Pontiac (north looping back south), and in the middle is a car show.  We usually park somewhere along square lake and woodward and just walk around all day.  Not as busy as bloomfield south but still a bunch of cars.

I enjoyed the show.  A bunch of cars, GM had a neat display with a 51 caddy race car and a 55 chevy drag car.  Here are some pictures I took,

Buckle and me will be heading up with our wives on Friday.   Mostly for the car show but also to do other stuff, Buckle's wife's birthday, and My wedding anniversary (we stayed up at the island for our honeymoon).  Just daily drivers this time around...

Rodder's Roundtable / Re: O/T..Bike question..
May 16, 2006, 07:52:36 AM
Is this a stock 650?  If so you got some work to make a drag bike out of it.  A 1980 650 wouldn't be my first choice they are a nice quite reliable cruiser.  The early 70 and late 60 bikes were the true muscle bikes (vintage) and the kawasaki H1 or H2 was the 2-stroke king.  A 650 will giddy-up and go and being a honda should have a strong bottom end, but making a drag bike out of it may be a lot of work.
If it's already built then I'd just go thru the carbs, check the clutch and brakes and clean it and run it.  I've brought back to life old honda's that you'd swear spent their life in the bottom of a pond.

I'll be at autorama but just as a spectator, I'll be there with a few buds.  Looking forward to checking out the panel jam though...

Rodder's Roundtable / Detroit-isn't it about the product?
February 09, 2006, 01:25:27 PM
That is Unbelivable!  I think the best thing Ford and Wagner did was take the paycut, though it could/should be more.  A lot of what has been said here is exactly why the big 3 loose market share.  I would like to know what hourly workers at one of the japanese compaines feel about their companies.  The only people I know seem to love working for them.  One in metro detroit (tier 1 to big three) is a VERY good company to work for.  The culture change starts at the top and companies that give exec's golden gooses still is NOT the way to go.  Thing is how are investors going to feel about Delphi doing that ?  I sure as hell wouldn't invest in them!

A big problem is the culture, yeah it's a buzz word and is moronic but it's true.  What is happening at the big 3 is nothing new.  How many american motorcycles are there?  How many american tv's or raidos?  Not too many, why?
Culture.  I watched a docutmentary from the 60's of two tv companies, one in Ohio, one in Japan.  The guys in Ohio were union, us vs. them and just there to collect a paycheck and get the hell out at 5.  produced the same cash cow tv for 30 years.
Japan had a culture EVERYBODY wanted to see the product succeed and everyone gave input to the design, a floor worker could go to the CEO and suggest changes!  Well which one do you think is still in business.  Say what you will about how management runs a company but it takes two to tango.
Me being a "salary" guy along with my wife (GMAC) and I see how the unions SUCK AND SUCK from the big 3 for today and who gives a * about tomorrow mentality and then bad mouth the hands that feed them, maybe it would be better for GM to file for banktruptcy just to loose that...
Wish I got the benefits they did and could still * and moan about how it's not enough...

Quote from: "40"Welcome! I assume your avatar is a photo of your son.....Great looking future rodder!

Thanks, yes that is my son Garett, I sure hope he gets the bug and likes cars.  He really likes motorcycles (I've had an assortment over the years) so I hope that will translate over to the cars.  I bought my chevy because of him.  Sold a bike and bought a 4 door so I could take him, and my Wife along!

Here is a shot the day I picked it up.  The wheels are gone replaced with stock 15".  Right now I'm in the middle of swapping in a SBC.  My plans so far is to just get the thing running and stopping then work out what my plans are.  Mild custom more door is the theme so far.

Dave's place is pretty amazing!  You could spend all day in his collection room just checking out all the stuff!  I can't wait to see his new car done, this one will be a driver, very cool.

Rodder's Roundtable / O/T Bad Day
January 19, 2006, 09:02:12 AM
My family lost my Grandmother (Dad's mom) the same way through hospice.  It's a tough thing to go through, but, I take comfort in knowing we were there in her final moments, I got to say "I love you and will always remember you".  My prayers are with you Dave.
