Title: Stock replacement converters for T-400s

Who makes a good one?

455 Buick & T-400.


I have a 2400 rpm stall B&M holeshot converter in my 32 roadster and it's doing ok.
Flash stalls at 2800 rpm fwiw

Even so, I think I'd like to try a stock converter in my 31 roadster.

Planning on starting the car with a stock 455 low CR engine and doing the hopup/rebuild later.

I don't know who builds them, but I buy my convertors from D & E hard parts. If you want a bit more stall, you can use an 11" convertor out of a 350 turbo, fits right in.

Do you have a link to D and E? I didn't find them on a google search.

Do they also have rebuild kits for the tranny? Is this also where you buy the rebuild kits?

Who else do you recommend for rebuild kits and any particular brand of parts?

Thanks troops.

I'm liking the T-350 11" converter recommendation.

A stock one should hang in there, especially with 3.25 gears, 28" tall and narrow tires and about 2200# weight on the 31 roadster.


Thought I was gonna have to buy some flex-plate bolts, but found them in the crankshaft flange.

Are converter bolts usually available at the parts houses or dealer parts counter?

This is NOT a answer
But a suggestion.

Find yourself a early Buick Turbo 400 with the Switch/Pitch option. I like the 65 and 66 ones ... I have a Buick Switch Pitch in my Chevrolet Turbo 400. It gives you two different stall speeds ... at the flip of a switch. A higher stall ... for sitting at the stop light ... so it does not drag you thru the intersection ... and a lower stall speed for the highway. I have mine hooked up on a toggle switch but Buick had them setup up off the brake light switch.

I cheaped out and bought a re-man stocker for my C-6. Now the engine stalls as soon as it drops into gear unless I have the idle set high, no fun at lights. If I put in neutral at a light it WILL stall as soon as I put it back in gear, very embarrassing. I will have to get an after market converter with a slightly higher stall when the funds are available.

Years ago, I had one in my race car, it worked good there too. There is also an 11" convertor for that, came in the Super Turbine 300. drops right in a T400 once it has been modified for the switch pitch.
