We will be there Fri. & Sat. Blue over cream 47 Ford coupe. We usually are found near Memphis Street Rods BIG tent. Stop by & say hi. Is the RRT/hamb area going to be in the usual place?
be there Thurs. Fri. and Sat. Will try ot meet a few more of you guys this time. Be in the red ragtop.
I'll be there Wed
Not gonna make it this year. Will be heading to Speed Week the next week.
You guys all have fun and be careful out there on the highways.
Charlie
Should be in Louisville by 6:00pm Tuesday. Than it's 5 straight days of pure fun there after!! :D (well some of its work, but still fun none the less 8) )
Mike

I'm not going to be there this year. If someone want to haul the BBQ down there, you are welcome to use it. I am taking it to the Nats North.
Well it won't be the same without Enjenjo, but we're still going. I'd love to see the 348 with 3 dueces since I have a 348 in my truck.
We may even have to go for the entertainment this year. Jay and the Americans, and the Gatlin brothers.
Sometimes you just need to get away. Step away from that project and nobody gets hurt ;)
Steve
We will be there from Mississippi. Going up on Tuesday.
AL
I won,t be there over 4000 miles away and the price of petrol     .but please post pic.--Lindsay
hey Al and Mrs. Al--you parking in the same spot as last year.
I won't be going either. But I am going to try to make the GoodGuys show in Joliet, IL in September.
If anybody would like to stop by we will be on the grass off the road to the swap meet. 48 ford f1 with crown autobody inc. on the doors and a black 40 tudor
I'll be there on Saturday
I will be there Wed. PM.
We will be on the grass on the way to the swap meet, stop by.

Ken, We enjoyed seeing you again. My wife liked the Nats so much that she is planning next year already. 10,711 registered this time. Lower than the last few years, but still many to look at.
AL
I had a great time as always. it's nice to be able to stay at the hotel across the street
Hey Al--was great to see you and your new bride and meet a fellow RRT member. Should have visited longer. Take care
Well it wasn't the same without Enjenjo there, but had a good time and enjoyed the whole package deal.
We even went to see Jay and the American's.
Good times, good cars, good friends.
Steve
got there on Monday, worked on Tuesday helping set up the O'Brien Truckers booth, got a bit wet Wednesday morning, did the building on Thursday and shot some photos in the afternoon. Shot a ton more photos on Friday, MoPar country and Safety inspection on saturday and wrecked my car on Sunday.
Rear tire blew at 65 mph. Couldn't get stopped before the tire started coming apart. Broke the tail light and put a basketball-sized dent in the rear quarter and the paint is chipping off on the end of the ribbon where it widens into the scene. The white (lacquer) base is no longer available so, after 44 years, the car may not get repaired except for, maybe, a new fender. Today's paints won't adhere to acrylic lacquer so the dent will stay if we can't find '72 Ford white lacquer. (or the tinters to mix it)
Tire hit the upper hinge and sprung the door which chipped the paint on the rear quarter
Rear is dented and paint has chipped off the ribbon which can't be fixed unless I can locate 72 Ford white lacquer.
Dragged out my spare and drove down to Emmaus, PA with Jack Woodcome and we hauled the car home 9 Aug 08.
Just found out this afternoon that the car's totalled, at least in the eyes of the insurance company, and I have to by it back if I want to repair it myself.
Sorry to hear that--at least you were able to keep it under control. Good luck
Dang Skip, sorry to hear that. One of my favorite cars to ride in. I've enjoyed it for years.
Hope you can get her back and re-do it. The back lot at Loovul and the fairgrounds at Macungie won't be the same.
It definitely has to be up there with the best of the long distance and most miles group.
Skip....Don't give up yet...I think these folks still mix acrylic lacquer per the OE paint code & chip.....Go to the site & then to the "color library" ..
Hope this helps....

Bob.........
Thanks!
Looked into their site and they list both color I need $119 and change for the white and $190 for the cinnamon firemist
Now, let's hope they have it and aren't just lising the numbers.
I've e-mailed 'em.
Man, that's a bummer to hear about the '34 Skip. But if they totalled it and you buy it back, things should be ok. I know you're not going to part with it after having it 40+ years. Good to hear no one got hurt.
Hey Skip...Did you get your paint issues squared away :?: Hopefully they were able to help..What's the status on the car :?:
Bob.........

Phoned them. They can help. Just waiting on the insurance check right now.
The quarter's kinked in at the bottom pretty bad. Will need to be pulled. The rear pan is torn on both sides (where it got pulled around to the right)
Big dent in the quarter where the paint's chipping off.
Hopefully, it'll be done for next spring but I may be driving it in primer (spots) next season if things don't get moving with the idiot adjuster (he STILL hasn't sent in the estimate to Grundy)

GREAT to hear you're going to be able to save it :!: Some projects take a little longer than others..The good news is that you're bringing it back... 8)
Bob......
The car was up in Rindge New Hampshire for a few weeks dealing with the insurance company. Since it was only insured for $10.000, they totaled it and I had to buy it back after they averaged the salvage bids. Some shyster, who knew the car, bid ten grand. When the insurance company averaged in the other bids, it cost me $2,100.00 plus $300.00 deductible and I got $2,400.00 to resurrect the car.
Once that was settled, Jack straightened out the rear quarter and made me a new fender from one I bought from Dave Simard.
I have all of the paint that I'll need to re-paint the car, even the original Cinnamon Firemist base for under the candy tangerine. (thanks for the pointer, they had the paint and shipped it right out). Just ordered and received all of the Metalflake colors I need.
Spent the better part of late fall removing the doors and sanding the candy tangerine off the front doors before the cold weather hit and my air sander started freezing up. The front doors wound up in my den all winter because I was afraid the condensation in the garage would turn them to rust.
Now that warmer weather is here, I've gotten a lot more done. I still have to weld up a tiny crack in the rear pan (on the left side) that occurred when the body got stretched around the back. As soon as that's done, I can get some filler on top and prime the rear of the car.
The roof's all stripped as is the rear and right quarter. Still have the left quarter, cowl and all four door jambs to do as well as the both rear doors and finishing up the front doors.

This was shot yesterday afternoon, 28 March. I shot the pic before the light got bad. The belt line is, now, bare metal as is the rear window opening.
Click on the image and, once you get to Webshots, click on "full size". The color of the dashboard is the original color of the car. The last paint job in 2005 was done over Metalflake Gold base. The original was shot over Cinnamon Firemist. The dashboard and header are the only two pieces that are original.

After this shot was taken I finished removing the candy tangerine below the belt line. I want nice crisp lines so I'm removing all of the paint in the crevices and blending back into the graphics. The plus side of the matter is these repaints have all but erased the masking tape edge lines that were under the original clear.
The "tiger stripe" is, now, totally bare metal.
Have to blacken the surfer's hair and re-shoot the cob-webbing then blend the candy tangerine back into the belt line.

The crease in the body was pretty severe. I'm just about done leveling off the corner. The candy tangerine up at the top in the groove under the belt line has been sanded off since the pic was shot.
Looking good Skip. I bet you insure it for more this time.
Would you believe that's all the last appraisal said the car was worth? TEN GRAND!
Yea, Grundy said to up it a bit.

I think you better find a better appraiser. 10,000 would not cover the paint job at todays prices.

When, 1976??
Glad to see you're getting it ready to roll for the upcoming cruzn season. Think about attending the Jalopy Showdown in York SPrings PA in May. One of the better events in that area for tradtional hot rods and customs. Maybe I'll see you there.
don't think I'll have it finished by then
This amy sound dumb but I thought Louisville was not until August this year. What did I miss???
When Skip posted the update, he used an older thread featuring the same topic.
The appraisal was done by a licensed appraiser about 5 years ago. It's nothing but a beat up old hot rod with 233,000 miles on it.

Last Sunday (April 26). Nearly ready to lay on epoxy primer. Need to clean up a couple of body seams that were originally leaded but the lead got partially removed by the "professional" who re-painted the car in '04. Sandblasting the crevices pitted the body filler on the cowl.
(http://thumb15.webshots.net/t/75/75/6/49/93/2338649930028908655OLdgqL_th.jpg) (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2338649930028908655OLdgqL)
Late this afternoon. Need a bit more work on the "dent" and I can start rebuilding the graphics.
All four doors, the cowl vent and left rear fender now have epoxy primer on the bare metal. I'll go over everything looking for door dings (there are a couple) and pitted body filler from sandblasting the crevices then I'll shoot the car with lacquer primer and start putting on some color.
You'll have it ready soon.
The gold stripe with the acetylene smudges around the belt line was shot a couple of weeks ago but I still need to finish sanding off the tape edges. Got the graphics taped off (mostly Metalflake Spray-Mask) and the white is , now, all repainted.
Started repairing the transitions between the doors (I took out the stone chips while I was at it and that means blending the blue stripe across the rear hinge on the front door) (http://thumb15.webshots.net/t/64/664/0/29/69/2640029690028908655znvgvG_th.jpg) (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2640029690028908655znvgvG) That bottom hinge on the front door will be blue. Still need to reproduce the Candy Sea Green over Candy Regal Blue ribbon on the front doors/cowl.
and I have part of the ribbon replaced where the fender whacked the rear quarter (Candy Sea Green over Candy Aztec Gold).
(http://thumb15.webshots.net/t/75/75/2/24/99/2352224990028908655gUAWCS_th.jpg) (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2352224990028908655gUAWCS) Have the Candy Aztec Gold sprayed on the car, will overlay the Sea Green tomorrow night after work.
The last part of the ribbon is Candy Brick Red fading into Candy Purple then over sprayed with Candy Regal Blue. Getting the transition of the Candy Regal Blue into the existing scene will be a challenge as I'm dealing with translucent colors and overlaying one coat over the existing paint darkens the existing paint.
(http://thumb15.webshots.net/t/73/173/4/87/66/2444487660028908655EyYGDX_th.jpg) (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2444487660028908655EyYGDX)
Well, I beat the rain and got the doors and body graphics done. I shot the cob webs Saturday and sanded the clear yesterday (Sunday) and finished up tonight.
Now I have to bolt on the doors so I can get an accurate tape reference to blend the Cinnamon Firemist over the edge of the white panel.
It's been raining since Saturday evening and isn't supposed to let up until Thursday so I have plenty of time to tape panels up.
Once the Cinnamon Firemist is blended, I can shoot the Candy Tangerine over it, un-tape the graphics and blend the candy tangerine around the white panel and over the gold stripe.
Last step is a few coats of clear, then blocking it out then a couple more coats of clear.

I got the blend on the blue ribbon pretty close. It ain't perfect but that's nearly impossible with translucent paints when you have one color laid down over another.

I knew you could do it Skip. I am looking forward to seeing it.
Quote from: "Skip"It's nothing but a beat up old hot rod with 233,000 miles on it.
You sure he was talking about the car and not the driver?
Good to see you've got it all under control.
Still undecided on doing the trip this year, but if I get the 'all clear' I'll be there. Wouldn't be my first ever last minute flight and prolly won't be the last.
(http://thumb15.webshots.net/t/62/762/9/53/23/2587953230028908655neuasL_th.jpg) (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2587953230028908655neuasL)
Shot the Candy Tangerine on Saturday, blended it over the gold stripe and white panel this morning .
Pulled the doors back off and shot three coats of clear on the jambs and jambed the body.
Put the doors back on and cleared the outside.
Was putting the first coat of clear on the back side of the cowl vent and it went milky SO I cleaned the gun and packed it in. It's raining AGAIN!
Have to block the whole body to level off the remaining transitions between paint layers then clear the car again. I sanded the transitions I could get away with but some of them just couldn't be sanded w/o breaking through a layer. so...... I'll hide 'em under the clear like we did 37 years ago when we painted it the first time.

Last Monday night after installing new U-bolts on the rear to accomodate the pinion angle shims.
Went to OBT World Headquarters after work with it today (Friday) to deliver T-shirts for him to haul to Louisville for me (http://thumb15.webshots.net/t/55/555/3/25/6/2634325060028908655FZZerC_th.jpg) (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2634325060028908655FZZerC) and got my '09 NSRA Safety Inspection at the same time.
Great job Skip. Will see you at the Nats this year for sure. It will be my last trip as I'm ticked off enough at NSRA management that I will not spend the money to be a member after this year. Can't wait to see the new paint work.
Later.....
I plan on being there Thursday morning til Sunday. I'm usually on the grassy hill behind the building. The opposite end to the Swap Meet. 1929 Ford black Primer with a Tear Drop Trailer on behind.

Well, I was looking good to be there, until I took a nasty tumble.
With a couple of busted ribs, flying is out of the question, so it looks like I'm gunna hafta wait until next year.
Not sure why so many are * at NSRA. The way I see it they have to move with the times if they are to survive and prosper as an organisation.
More members will surly give them a much better voice to fight stupid legislation, and I fear that's something we're going to need as we move forward.
On the other hand, the late models at Goodguys events, just help to make them more interesting, to me at least.
I can't wait to see the greater variety at next years NSRA Nats.

i don't think it the expanded years that * most off. i think it's the fact the expanded years go into the 80's that is the problem. if they were to expand to say (as an example) the late 60/early 70s i think it would be more exceptable. most car guys believe late 70s/early80s car are not so "show worthy", rightly so IMHO. there are exceptions but most cars of that era are pieces of *.

It's a trust and honesty issue. The NSRA has lied about this from the beginning. 98% of the members want this change is unadulterated BS. No one was ever asked! NSRA management has lied in interviews and in print and as far as I'm concerned I'm not going to pay money to be a member of an organization that doesn't care about its members and thinks they're stupid. Why else would they lie so blatantly and expect us to believe it.
We weren't given the opportunity to vote on this stupid rule but a hell of allot of us will vote with our wallet when it comes time to renew our membership.

Leaving at 2am (yawn) to drive up there early on Tuesday morning. Going to try to do as much as possible while there because I won't be back next year. I will get back home afterwards and hit the ground running trying to find a job. I worked at a company for 13 years straight (worked there 2 years before that for a total of 15 years). Then was in a lay off in January '09. Got a new job in February '09 and it lasted until they ended the contract early at the end of May '09.
My wife and I just bought a house so trying to find something close in the IT or drafting field.
