Post by: Dave on June 03, 2008, 04:36:15 PM
Just so happens the OCC Michigan Bike was at the shop where they repaired mine . Guess they were storing it for them ? I was also told they needed some one that knew how to ride of of them there choppers... Tell ya what ? I wouldnt have one .. Takes 3 blocks to turn the * thing around   I was talking to my buddy thats part owner of the shop and he was joking about how big a deal it was being an OCC bike.. I told him i always figured if I could build cars I could build a bike if i wanted to .    He has seen the bikes ive totally rebuild too and just laughed and said yup.. :!: Its pretty though..

Vance be specific. When you say big dog do you mean sheep dog?I'll leave the uncomfortable p.o.s. comment for now!Just kidding. Actually I know very little about choppers or riding motorbikes . The choppers look pretty wild but I suspect most are intended for a corporate display case more than for the open road. We are building a mini chopper in my machining class that will be used as a promotional item for our school.Dave, I think you are right about building a chopper. There are issues around rake and trail for the front to steer properly but all in all I dont think there are as many issues to contend with on a bike as on a rod.

My last bike was a rigid panhead (knuckle frame) with a jockey shift. Basically a lot of parts thrown together. Wish I still had it but I wonder if my butt could take it these days. Of course I have more padding now than I did back then.

Big Dog Chopper, built in Wichita Kansas. they have several styles, Mastiff, Ridgeback, etc. most are rigid frame, big long forks, alot of rake in the neck. very hard to steer. you can't "lean" into the corners like a regular bike. you actually hafta "turn" the front end to corner.

IMHO, they are not suitable for anything other than "bar hopping"
