Thanks for the pictures Sam.  I had been searching to see if anyone had posted pictures from Saturday.  Since I have not been able to see the car run, pictures are all I have.

I think everyone will get there car ready soon.  It takes a while to get all the bugs out.

Then promised Mrs Ugly that there would be no more "Fun for One" cars built....That was 1976 & the beginning of "Street Rods" ........ 8)

1 week later. The 974jr Henry J lost the tranny last sat. night. We took it out and to the tranny guy. Torque converter was OK :D  Only needs the tranny rebuilt. May be have it back the first of the week. Tranny guy said we broke it on the very first pass. I can't wate to see if it drops the ET in to the mid 10's. BACK TO THE GASSER WARS
That gave me some time to work on the Bonneville Engine this weekend. Finished up the heads and tomorrow will set up the valve train.

Sounds good....... for both yu guys.

Bert got his first 2 hard passes on his Henry J ... the motor will buzz past 6k in each gear. The car ran a 13.3 at 100 mph, never missed a beat,  straight as an arrow down the track.

Not too bad for a warm 355 motor.. 60 foot times were at 1.8 , no trans brake at this point.  Bert is asking about a trans brake though.

he has a 331 motor near finished for the car..

main thing Bert keeps telling me is he is having FUN

sounds about right, my chevy II ran 13.10 last week at 102 and it is a 336 with a glide , 4.88 gear with turbo heads and moderate solid camshaft  straight axle etc

Well I went to Nobel Sat. for the Gasser races. There was a good crowd on hand to watch. After the first time trial we were all crying how bad they were running. The J ran the same as it was before the tranny broke.
I lost the first round with a .003 diff. Bought back and went down in the second round. My appoentment had a .002 light and ran his dial. You can't beat those kinda numbers.
When I left Sam was in the final with the one that took me out in the second round. We didn't get run each other YET.

well after deciding to trailer it after the second time trial as it was never locking up i decided to just raise the shift point from 6500 to 7500 and it helped , i lucked out all the way to the final round and steve larue put me on the trailer too, i have raced him for years out here and he is one tuff opponent.  but i got the little check and went home proud.  next chance to race the J is june 28th  cnt wait,,,,,, gotta pull the converter this week again and have it tightened up... gotta love em ...

I took the Henry J to Mo-Kan for the Memorial weekend races. There was a lot of nice cars there. A lot of good racing. I didn't make much of a showing, went out the second round each day. Had a good time though.

Sam called today to tell me it looks like the Gassers will race at TULSA RACEWAY PARK sat June 7th along with Jet cars Pro Mods and other fast cars. tulsaraceway.com for info.

MAybe this will be the time the Henry J and the Willis   line up.

Monday I started to put the Bonneville Stude back together for Aug. meet. We're hoping for good salt and good time with good friends

The Gassers went to Tulsa for the Thunder Jam. We were exebition running. No entry fee and no winning $. They had limited the field to 8 cars . Since we had more than that some left their cars at home. Sam being the gentelman that he is , left his at home so others could run. We ran heads up on a pro tree. The cars were paired up to each other close to their ET's to have about even racing. We did put on a show for the people. BIG smoky burn outs, through the lights burn outs and wheel stands. The large crowd cheered.
The finel winner was Jeff Beck in "7 Deadley Sins" Coupe.
There is pic's on tulsaracewaypark    The next oppertunity for a match race with the Willis will be at Nobel, ok June 28 th.

                                                 Later Hooley

Yep, hooley I went to Lawton sat night and ran a string of 7.27's.  leaves soft with the new converter but is super consistent, I think now i need a gear the 3.89s are a tad high.  maybe a 456 will be the deal.. but now we can run em for sure it is ready to race.  trying to get joe to drive my nova that night too.....stay tuned
