sonofabitch in an E250 van was in the lane directly to my right and he turned left right into me without even looking, then ran me into the curb at the intersection.

He has insurance and I'll make sure they pay.

I didn't get hurt and I didn't try to kill the other driver.

I had actually thought about riding my motorcycle today. I'm glad I didn't but I wish I would have taken the Dodge truck instead of the roadster.

I feel sorry for you, Don. If that car is hurt half as bad as I think it is, you and the insurance company are going to have some serious discussions. I wonder what the van driver was thinking about?

Was he on a cell phone at the time....if so, they seem to think that's a freebie.

Man, that sucks.

Glad you're OK. At least we now know that you can not be provoked enough to kill.

Don

I first looked at this about half an hour ago, and just finally got my breath.  First, glad you are ok.

Sure hate to see that happen.  Probably want to get your insurance company involved pretty soon, unless the other guys are just jumping to give you money.

Man that hurts!  I guess the guy didn't make a remark like "its just an old car"....cause he's still alive.  I think ya might move beyond your insurance company, maybe ya know some car guy lawyers out there to have in your back pocket when his insurance company tries to low ball you.  Just the gennie grille shell, 25 louver hood, and fender will be a bunch to replace. Not to mention the new frame and front end it looks like you'll need.  Hope it all works out, but it sure is a bummer.

That pretty much sums it up. His insurance co. will feel like they have a bulldog chomping on their balls until I get what I think is right.

The guy that hit me got on the cell phone right away and was telling his boss that some guy ram into him. I was ready to kill him at that point. Lucky for both of us I was in a bit of shock and unable to move my hands.

He was lost, disoriented and thought he was on a "normal" two way street. It was actually a three lane one way street. I was in the far left lane, he was in the center lane which he says he thought was the left turn lane.

After he figured out what happened he actually admitted to being at fault.

Post by: Gilles on March 25, 2008, 03:57:21 AM
Whaooo!!! :(  :(

I'm very sorry to see that, and hope the insurance will pay enough. The most important is that you are not injured.
I'm sure the 32 will be repaired in a short time.

Sorry to hear about your accident, Don. *, that is our greatest fear with our rods. Glad to know you are okay. As long as the insurance does not try to * you around, it will all work out in the end. Keep us updated regarding insurance claims.

I have Hagerty. I'll probalby just call them and let them handle it. A friend of mine did that in a similar situation. Hagerty sent him a check and then they went and beat up the other guys insurance for reimbursement.

To bad Don.  Tough news to see & hear. Good luck with the insurance company.
My 2 cents; I see a buy out offer coming rather then a repair. If so see if you can get it back as part of the settlement offer to offset pain, suffering and loss of vehicle.  Maybe ask if Brizio will rent you a replacement and for how much, when needed to attend a show or function, till the deals done. At least get a lost of usage cost factor. Seems only fair......................

  Hey, that's my side of the car!

Lucky for Mr Van Driver (not sure that's the right word, but the others that come to mind would be bleeped out here) I wasn't in it, I sometimes have severe difficulty with restraint and reckon this would have been one of them.  I do like Texas law however, what's the penalty in California for 'Idiotacide'?

Glad to know you're OK dude, the car will fix, but you would be tough to replace.

I'm not near as experienced as some of you with claims so I asked my agent about this. She suggested what Don said he was going to do. All I can say is good luck Don. I hope Hagerty takes good care of you. I will be watching this to see if I need to make a change in my coverage on the 32.

Three weeks in a minimum security facility with your choice of cellmate Bruno or Brucie, and a $375,000,000,000,000.00 fine, plus court costs. The second offense penalities are much stiffer, there is no Brucie.

Glad to hear you are ok.The car looks pretty bent up.I'm with slocrow , have them rent you a replacement for the cruising season until a settlement is reached . Your website is evidence enough that the car is part of your lifestyle, not just another vehicle!

Although I do prefer the roadster for fair weather cruising, remember I have a very capable coupe to get me by while the roadster is incapacitated. I don't need an Avis hotrod.

The cast Magnum axle is badly bent, actually most of the suspension and steering parts on the right side are toast. everything that is bent or broken can be replaced with the possible exception of the patina.

If you're gunna use it like the road-duster, you might wanna consider investing in a fan.

I agree. Let Hagerty take care of it. They know what you have and will treat you right from all I've heard. I haven't had a claim with them and pray that I never do but it's good to know that my insurance company people are car guys.

That van moron didn't even know that he was on a one way street so he probably has a corner store high risk policy that won't want to pay anything already. It would just be a big stress event to try to deal with them.

I notice that the van has no spot mirror on the rear view mirror on the door. We have a few of these vans and light trucks. I have insisted that all have spot mirrors on both sides. These latest pics show why. Sure feel your pain Don. Joe

Yea, been out straight wirin' hot rods for the past 6 or 8 months.  Finished a hemi-powered Brookille roadster last night, hooked up the cruise control in a Street Beast (Yuk!), starting a '56 F-100 tomorrow night.

Left the body shop a year agothis past Novmber.  I'm an auto-elec for a ompany that builds purpose-specific trucks. (mostly BIG bucket trucks for the utlity companies).

I got everything settled with Hagerty. They treated me right through the whole process. It was a pleasure doing business with them under the circumstances.

I removed all the bent pieces and replaced the front suspension pieces that were bent just to be able to move the car around. I'll be looking for some sheetmetal at the LA Roadster Show Swap Meet. Short term I'll put it back pretty much the way it was. At the same time I'll be getting the original chassis together to fix it better.

I'll be at the AntNats Sunday. Friday, a few of us are going up to Lake Arrowhead for a wooden boat regatta and we might check out the car show in Big Bear too.
