How many of you are planning on the NATS this year? I know several of the regulars don't plan on it this year.

I'm going! We're going to have a large group coming from Mississippi this year. Several Mississippi regulars missed last year, so they are coming back this year. Then last year, we had several rookies and they are coming back.

Not 100% sure at this point but it looks doubtful for me.We are taking an Alaskan cruise up the inside passage and will be leaving mid-August for 10 days so being gone a week prior to that will be nearly impossible.If I don't make it,It'll be the first one I've missed in many,many years.I am sort of getting tired of the Nats being in the same place every year though.....Sure wish they'd move it around a bit.Louisville is OK but it's been like 10 years or so in a row now.....It's always great to see old friends but the city itself is getting kind of old! IMO....it's time for a change but it seems like I've heard they're signed up for another hundred years or so

My brother (MO JUNK) and I are planning to make the trip. I have not been to the Nats since they were in Oklahoma City.

For I think the first time since the Nats moved back to L'ville, I won't be attending. I'm going to lave on that Friday nite and head out to Blanding UT then onto B'ville for Speed Week. It will be a 14 day adventure in Big Olds and I can't hardly wait.
I will miss all my pals that I normally see that weekend BUT I think I'll be seeing most at the HAMB Drags and/or Kzoo.

Ok..Here's the scoop...We arrived in the area Thursday pm as we normally do, hit the fairgrounds at 8 am on Friday..( Been doing this a lot at bigger shows..Makes walking the vendor area's MUCH easier..), found a neat parking space & put up the cabana for shade...No wind..Sheltered area.. Saw no need to put cabana stakes into the ground...Spent Friday am using the same policy I used at Indy...Walk carefully for 45 min or so..then sit for an hour or so...Worked great at Indy & was working well at Des Moines also.. About 12ish we were sitting having lunch under the cabana when the thing raised about 6 inchs..came back down & then LAUNCHED... :shock: :-o Without thinking I grabbed for it..kept one side down but it was flyin'...My only concern was the cars parked around us so I sorta...well I kinda ...I TACKLED the dumb thing :!: It must not have been pretty as the lady owner of the NICE car about 6" away from my still flapping cabana came running over screaming " Are you all right?? Do you need an ambulance??? My wife said that I told her something to the effect of " I can be fixed---grab the %^&&*(*^$ tent ":!: :!: :!:
Some folks from other cars gave us a hand getting the thing upright & back to where we had placed it..this time NAILED DOWN.. :roll: One of the guys told me it was the "best running tackle I've ever seen on an EZ-up...Ever think of going pro???? "....Another said he wished he had his camcorder running as it would have been a guaranteed winner on AFV for sure...
Anyhow....The important parts.....
A..No cars were injured or mistreated during this "adventure"....
B..I somehow did all of this & still was holding on to my samich... :shock: :?
C..I never spilled my drink :!: :!: :shock: ( Dave would be sooo proud.. :lol: :lol: )
As for me...well...I can be fixed...again... :oops: :oops: :oops:
( My wife advised me I'll prolly be the one on roller skates & a rope at K-Zoo...She plans to treat me as a "pull-toy" :P :P :oops: ) .

Not looking good for the Chopper to attend. Too many life issues getting in front of fun issues....
Won't be making Bonneville this year either. I'm gonna have an empty place in my heart this summer.
Denise - have a great time, say hi to the gand from me.
I will be in Columbus this weekend selling at the Goodguys swap and the same for Nats North in Seprtember. Culling the herd so to speak.

Well, The biggest reason I asked, is to plan what to bring with the trailer. I think this year we will just do lunches, and maybe a brakfast or two if the interest is there. There just seems to be too much going on for dinner any more.
I can't say we'll be in the same spot, but we will be in the same area.

I'll be there with bells on, and any meal is fine with me as long as Kenny cooks it. Oh wait, I have to go...The room is in my name... :roll:

Thats a pretty lame attemt to get inducted into T/S ... If you really want the team represented I would think you lean more towards smart thinking and a few creative ideas. Those are the things were looking for for our members. :wink: ...

You could be the Louisville rep while your there and look for other possible members..

Theres gonna be alot of regulars not attending which is kinda gonna suck but it will still be fun. I have a feeling attendance is gonna be way down this year.
Well, it's official. I cancelled my motel room. I am going to do my best to make K-zoo this year instead.

I've got the same feeling. Not only high fuel costs, but the rectum stretching they give you on the hotel rooms, and probably burnout. People are most likely tired of going to the same old place all the time. Now with all the chair, tent and tarp crap going on, folks are probably saying the h e l l with it and staying home, or going to a smaller local show.
You'd think the attendance would be at an all time high though, because Team Smart won't be there... :wink: :D :D :D

Room rates been high for years and its done all over for special events. Ya gotta just bite the bullet and go.. Sue and I are leaving for Utah to see one of the kids Aug 8th so I dont think ill make it down but.....I am comming along real good on the roadster so if I decide i need to shoot down for a night or 2 to get some needed parts I may show up. Just dont plan on me cause i wouldnt wanna spoil your party 8) Ya I know I will be missed again this year Thank You...

Seems somebody arranged a golf tournament for the first weekend and there are no rooms available. So I'll be sleeping under the stars at the bend in the road, near the Highway Hilton. Should be a bunch of fun.

Just keep a firm hand on that thing when you mosey around LAX. TSA folks can open your checked bag for inspection for any reason when you're flying home, and they don't have to tell you they did it. I would keep a fist on it and take it as a carry on. Small items like that seem to be on the lists of items stolen from luggage, and LAX doesn't have the worlds greatest reputation. They usually end up in pawn shops within 24 hrs after being sold to fund illicit activities. Now if you want to leave it in that green sedan when you get to Loovul, I know the secret of how to get into that car... :wink: :wink: :D

Well it's about countdown 'til the Nats. I have gone every year since 1999 and I looked the other day and found all of my Nats t-shirts from '99 to '06. There were 8 of them. Since today is the 8th workday 'til I leave going up there, I am wearing my 1999 shirt with the woodie they gave away that year on it. The 2000 shirt will be for Friday. I will do this all the way up to and including the Monday, July 30th.

Well you guys have fun.. I was thinking about running down for an evening so I could do some shopping one day but its not gonna happen. I have saturday and sunday to get paint on the roadster frame and Id like to get some red on the other parts too. I go to work monday then im in classes for 4 days in kzoo so that gives me the nats weekend to try to finish some more paint cause the wednesday after that im off to utah :!: Oh ya the indy car race at michigan may take up a sunday also. The youngest and I have been going every year and we may go again this year... Too many races too little time :lol: :lol:

Some friends of mine have three rooms up for grabs at the Executive (east I believe) right across from the fairgrounds. I think they are $550 for Wed night - Sat night. No traffic to deal with, lots of parties and who knows what "celebrities" will be staying there this year!

I only have 8 from the Street Rod Nationals. The rest of the event t-shirts are from local and some national rod runs and such. Event t-shirts make the most of my shirt inventory.

If they won't let me in with my car, I may need someone to tow the trailer in, but wednesday there should be no problem. If you'll be there, and have a hitch, PM me a cell number or something.

I have never been. Thought I would get to go this year. But I have a medical diagnostic test on Thursday and that bummered me out on convoying over and shared room. Contingent left here this morning and the rest are heading out Wednesday.
Wife hates car shows. The part where you sit around in lawn chairs. Won't do it.
This morning she told me she had a room in Louisville reserved for "us" Thursday through Sunday. Said I looked like a sick puppy with my buds at the Nationals and me sitting home. She is really a good wife, even if she is not to hot on hot rods.
So, if my test goes OK we will hit the road before noon Thursday and get in about 6 PM.

That would be it, or to put it better, has been in the past.
If you come in the main entrance, straight ahead will be the bldgs. The big building on the right will be the vendors location. To the right of that building is a large grassy area, separated from the building by an access road and a wooden fence. Follow this wooden fence towards the covered buildings near the rear right hand corner of the vendors building. The BBQ usually sets up along that fence about 1/2 way down. Look for a black trailer with smoke coming out and OBT Ken roasting meat and burning coffee... :wink: :lol: :lol:

Hey all... My dad and I just rolled into town about 20mins ago. Ill just say the original plan was arrival about 12hrs ago, but those "new parts gremlins" just wouldn't leave us alone. It's really a shame when you're first stop after checking into the hotel is the parts store.
I see I won't be seeing quite a few of the regulars this year. Sorry to see it, but I can understand all of the scenarios. I was in an odd situation last year too but was still stubborn enough to come down for just one day. It was more of a teaser than anything else. This time around I'm cashing in on the perks of work and using my vacation... so we'll be around all weekend and hopefully dropping by the trailer often.

Yeah, it's hot up here. Temps are supposed to be in the mid 90s the whole time. I just checked what was on weather.com and it said 91 degrees but with 35% humidity right now.
I'll just have to remember those years when we set those record low temps one year.

We got it all set up today, we're just a bit south of where we were in the past, right by the corner of the building, on the same fence.

Just started digging the basement for house #2 this afternoon......It hasn't rained on that jobsite since early June......It is raining hard there now with about 2 to 3 more inches expected....should have a fairly large swimming pool when I get there tomorrow.The humidity has been around 80/85% plus.....this should push it to an even 100%! Guess I'll just wait and hope someone took a camera and posts some photos! HAVE FUN!!

Not what we would call early. Some time around 10+ hit the eway at 120 at 7:45. Morning? Made great time as my first stop was the little hole-in-the-wall gas station on the east side of the road in Kokomo. Was in registration at 2:00. Did you get someone to take Sharon to her folks?
We are getting an earlier start than planned and we should be there by mid afternoon on Thursday.

We had a nice lunch on the grounds yesterday. OBT charred a few Brats and burgers for us. It was kinda cool - 102 - but it's supposed to warm up today. We had the usual gang of thugs and old guys...mostly old guys, so we didn't get into much trouble.

I hardly looked at any cars sitting on asphalt.
I spent most of my time indoors lookin at parts and stuff.

it was nice meeting you with Enjenjo inside the main building yesterday.
I enjoyed the Nats, but the heat did make it a touch less enjoyable. Still, I remember one year it was over 100 there. The highest I seen on my truck thermometer on the way back to the hotel was about 97 at around 3:30 pm. That was on Friday I believe.
I didn't know Chip Foose was going to be there. Did anything say he would be there?
It was also nice seeing Sam Memolo doing the electrical seminar, and Barry McGuire doing his TV show there.
I just wish GM special cars were still part of the show.
Overall a very good time and very well run again.

Yeah, the heat wore me out. i did pretty good Friday, but I was somewhat less than enthusiastic on Saturday. I didn't take a picture ONE. Probably cuz I couldn't stand to stand still long enough for fear that I would melt.

Left L'ville at 4:20pm et, got home 10:20pm cdt. Had a carnival semi/trailer blow a dually right in front of me, scattered debris on the coupe frontend, but can't find any damage. Saw a crotch rocket catch on fire just east of St. Louis. Traffic was a real bear for a sunday evening for some reason.
