Title: RRT BBQ
Post by: enjenjo on March 25, 2007, 01:27:33 PM
The other BBQ thread can be found here  http://www.roddingroundtable.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5784&start=0

I thought I would start a new one since we are getting close.

The plan as it stands now is to make it a three day deal.

Friday we will visit the Henry Ford Museum, they open at 930Am. About 530pm we will go to Denise's house for dinner.

Saturday we will work on the BBQ trailer. the plan is to get it ready for the coming season. Things needing to be done;

Replumb the gas system. We have new regulators, burners, and new controls. We need to fabricate a cover of some type, to help control the heat.

Clean and repack the wheel bearings, we have nearly 10,000 miles on them.

Clean and wax the body of the trailer.

Thorough cleaning of the grille. It's been two years since the last one.

Touch up the paint.

Clean and reorganize the storage.

We have a BBQ planned after the work, we can do a bonfire if anyone wants to. There will be snacks  here for all who are  hungry during the day.

Sunday we will visit another museum I'm thinking at this time of the Auburn Cord Dusenburg Museum. If we have time, there is the National Automotive and truck museum in the same town. The hours for both are 9 to 5 sunday. If there are enough people I can arrange a guided tour, and lunch there.

Monday, there will still be some people here from out of town, I can arrange a visit to a couple of local shops if you like.

I need an idea of how many are planning to participate each day, to figure out food and logistics each day. so reply to this with the days you will be participating, and the numbers in your party. Just a good guess is fine.

Anyone who needs maps or directions, send me a PM, and I'll tell you where to go.

Any other questions, post them here, and I'll try to get them answered.

we will have a BBQ chat on the evening of the 1st of April to get every one on the same page.

Frank, I won't be at the Henry Ford/Denice doings. I'll be in Swanton late Fri afternoon and probably stay until Mon. depending on what's doing. Visiting some shops sounds good. There will be 3 of us, me, myself and I

We are now ensconced in our suite at the Comfort Inn whilst having a cold beer. Just another Saturday. See some of you tonight it Denises.

We are now ensconced in our suite at the Comfort Inn whilst having a cold beer. Just another Saturday. See some of you tonight it Denises.

I don't know how 10 of us wandered around all day in the museum, and not run into Ken, and Charlie, but we did. I tried calling Ken, but he has his phone turned off

We had a great meal at Denise's house, made it home about an hour ago. Now to get ready for tomorrow.

First off l want to thank everyone for making Cindy feel so welcome and the nice comments made to me about her, she is great and I know she enjoyed meeting all of you people as well.

Well I know I didn't get my hands too dirty doing much work, but had a great time hanging out with everyone and it was nice to meet a couple of members I hadn't met, Sir stude(Doug) defenatly got in there and got his hands dirty, making up for missing the original build I guess  Seriously a great guy, and EMS Junky thanks for bringing the grand daughter  Holding the baby really made CIndys day, she was starting to get a little bored I think.

Brian gets the worker of the day award for all his cutting and grinding getting the old burners out and getting the area ready for the new kick * Cast iron burners, not like this bbq didn't already rock, but now it will be unmatched in Rod run purpose built BBQ trailers. Like we have any Competition anyway hahhaha.

A huge thanks to Frank for hosting and Cheryl and the family for the great eats at the end of the day. YOu people are first class folks and  always go way out of your way for other people, I can't say enough about your hospitality at your house, in the garage or at a rodrun. I couldn't begin to thank you enough for what you do.

We look forward to hanging out this summer with everyone, defiantly a special group of hotrod friends, with a big emphasis on the friends part.

To those I hadn't met before it was a pleasure, to those old friends, nice to get together again and BS.  I think Dave that your exercise regime got a real workout Sat, my understanding this morning was that you were rather tired from all the lifting. LOL  I hope it's not too long before pics of your great suprise show up on the net.  After I left Auburn, I two laned it home for a good share of the way. Got home just before 6 and good women that she is my wife had supper ready when I arrived. She knew I would be home by 6 as I had called her earlier to let her know.

Wow!  What a weekend!  Starting with a WONDERFUL dinner at Denise's on Friday night, thanks sweetheart!  It was really great to see everyone I met at the K'zoo swap meet and to add some new names to my growing buddy list.  Debb and Rob, you guys are the best - thanks for the honor of being able to lay a few lines down for you.  Debb, you and Bry (we gotta talk more music next time) have got what it takes, please keep at it!  Doug, you sir are an inspiration.  Charlie and Ken - I could listen to your stories forever and thanks for listening to a couple of mine.  Joe, I gotta pick your brain for the automotive history you have stored there.  Nice seeing Frank III again.

Frank and Cheryl - thanks for the hospitality on Saturday and for the tour of the buildings, your stash is mind-boggling!  It was cool talking orange Deuces with Frank.  Also fun catching up with Jack and checking out Herb Martinez's work on his dash again.  Good to gab with Dave and finally meet Sue.  Nice also to see Rudy again and meet Cindy.  Rudy, I just heard you are a guitarist, we gotta talk more music next time, too.  Vance, it was great to meet you, sir.

I had to be back in Illinois for my daughter's bridal shower today but I'd like to hear how the ADC museum trip went.  There never seems to be enough time to do everything but spending quality time with you folks was beyond impressive - thanks so much!

Great weekend with a bunch of great pals. OBT and I enjoyed the Ford Museum after a looong absence - close to 20 years for both of us.

Denise - thanks for hosting a really fun & relaxed dinner. It was wonderful. Good to see all the gang there, and of course it's always great to share our car life stories. Larry - good to see you. What are the chances of running into another  Amphitheater indoor drags alumni anyway? After 45 years or so?

Frank & Cheryl (and Fat Cat and Miss Kitty) thanks for a wonderful day of our usual antics and a nice meal shared with friends - what more could we ask for? One of the biggest crowds we ever had for BBQ maintenence - not that I did much - for which I feel duly guilty. Thanks Rudy for the tips on the windsplit construction on the '40 windshield - and next time I come to "the City" I want to see the Corvette shop for sure.

The ACD Museum was a really neat place filled with  some of the best examples of luxery cars of the early 30's. And even though there wasn't a '32 Ford in sight I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. With Rob's Knoledge of the cars and the museum I felt like I had a guided tour.

All in all it was a dandy weekend - actually just 3 more Saturdays - but it sure got me primed for summer.

Just had dinner after getting in about 5:00 this afternoon.  I cannot tell everyone just how much fun I had.  A lot of you have met each other over the years, but of the crew there I had met 4 of you.  Enjenjo, GPster, OBT, and Charlie Chops, so meeting the whole bunch that was there was just great.  Thanks to Frank, for the hospitality, the room, and the tours, Denise for the party, and everyone else for the company.  Not only was all the Car/People stuff fun, I got to see three more states and things are so much different than out west.

I know it is a long haul out this direction, but I would sure like to show everyone the beauty we have out here.  Denise and I were talking about a run that is out here the first weekend of August in West Yellowstone, (the west enterance to Yellowstone Park).  She is thinking about the 2008 run, it is the weekend before Bonneville.  That could work out for a neat place for everyone to have a get together possibly.  Yellowstone is about 150 mi south of my location ( 2 hours) and Glacier park is another 200 Miles north of me, (about a 3-4 hour drive).  Something to think about.  The link for the run is  http://www.yellowstonerodrun.freeservers.com/

Again, thanks for all the fun, and sure glad to meet everyone.

Doug

ps.  I took about 400 pictures, and have not started downloading them yet.

Got in today about 1:30, and came back to 78* sunny weather. Not much of a chance to work on the tan up in Ohio, but I enjoyed the weather there. It was refreshing to see a little snow for the first time in about 10 years, and the chill kinda thickened the blood up a little... :!:

Thanks again to Frank and Cheryl (Mom) for the hospitality, and to Fatcat and Trinka for the great dinner Monday evening. It sure was great seeing everyone and having the chance to get the old paws dirty again. The food was awesome, and even Dave's store bought deer sticks were good, even if they did taste like chicken... :D  Thanks again to Larry for letting me waste a little of his paint also... :!:  :D

After everyone left Saturday, a few of us hung around in the garage and chewed the fat for a few hours. We also previewed the DVD that Vance left for us, the new Sheep Gone Wild video. Yes Vance, it's true what they say: the TV cameras DID make you look 10 lbs. heavier than in real life... :P

The museum trips were great, and after a couple of years of hearing how much food Debb can consume, I was able to witness it in person on Sunday. There was a path worn on the carpet between her seat and the buffet... :P     (Thanks for the ride in the Lincoln :!: )

Another highlight was listening to Doug and Frank on Sunday night talking about cars and hot rodding. I was priveliged to be an audience for a few hours; these guys are awesome to listen to... :!:

A word of warning however: If you happen to see these 2 guys in your neighborhood, lock up your sheep, lock up the back door and run for your life....

Ok lets talk about the only hot rod there.. Yup Mr. Parker drove the hot rod and even got snow covered on Saturday night but Wait the real story hasnt been told yet. When I got to Franks saturday at 10 am as promised Bryan and Frank and Doug (my new hero first meet i got drunk and still friends)were there and I thin that was about it. I asked where slocrow and phat rat were and they told me that Frank and Jack had come over to borrow a jack and jack stands because jacks car had a starter problem.. :?:  Well they finally got there and slocrow and phat rat both told us they had to get under ther car and hammer on the starter to get it to go? I prolly got that wrong cause someone suggested a device to fix it and we will wait till they chime in. Ok so Jack wants a good firm place to park the car to jack it up and look at the starter problem. We all go out and move the project that enjenjo is working on for a friend so jack can pull his car up on the apron in front of the garage. Ok here is where im calling B/S no fair.. He pulls the car up then finally shut it off as it was running in the driveway and then proceeds to start it 3 4 5 times :?:  :?:  Thats when I told em oh ya sweet ..........Phat Rat just wanted front row parking cause he didnt have a roped off spot like me :?:  Them 2 guys sure went to a lot of work to get the front row.. I really got to give em credit id never have gone to that much work but it really made the bad starter believable especially when he had Fat Cat run him to the parts store for a starter.. They came back with out one..
Good Job Jack...

Yep front row parking, 8)  not sure what happened  :?: and I haven't been able to get it to do it again. :?  I think possibley it wasn't quite in park and therefore the neutral safety switch did it's job. :)  It's the only thing I've been able to come up with.  Dumb that I didn't think of it at the time? YES,    but stuff happens

That's because that supposed "deer stick" I ate dripped with something that smelled like a mixture of "Doe In Heat" and "Campbells Chicken Broth".  It ain't easy running a grinder and cut-off tool when you have a sudden urge to find a pile of straw to sit on or scratch your head on a tree.............................(They was good tho')............... :D  :D  :D  );b(

Mystery animals roam northeast Ohio woods
Residents say apparently nonnative animals resemble goats, sheep, deer

Updated: 4:32 a.m. CT April 19, 2007
CHESTERLAND, Ohio - Is it a goat? Is it a sheep? No, it's a ... what is that thing?

Wildlife experts haven't been able to positively identify at least three animals spotted roaming the woods in Chester Township, about 20 miles east of Cleveland, over the past few days.
"We're not exactly sure what they are," said Allen Lea of the Ohio Division of Wildlife, which has reviewed photos taken by a resident. "But they're definitely not a native species. They're not where they belong."

Sgt. Debbie Davis said her Internet searches have failed to identify the "half deer, half ram" she has seen while on patrol.

Experts at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo reviewed the photos and speculated the animals could be tahrs (a wild goat indigenous to Asia) or mouflons (a wild sheep found in Europe and Asia).

Or sumpin from the park (trailer)

Oh no thats a texas deal if i ever saw one.. They gots a lil pen at the pop rivet palace park where the cops wanna b's try to make childrens.. Us michiganders are trained professionals in stalking and hunting. We could go to OHIO and prolly show them how to stalk and take them wierd aminals. Thats if the story is true. Im kinda thinnin that lady cops brazier is too tight and its cuttin off blood to the brain.  That aint area whatever in nevada its OHIO for Christ sakes..
Besides here in michigan we like womens.. All kinds of em.. I thin the heat really affects people in ohio and texas. They dont know what gin is either and that leads to problematic childrens too.. Im gonna right OHIOS a letter and let em knows im willin to hunt the mighty beast if they need me..
