Title: Mustang II power rack hook up
Post by: WZ JUNK on November 28, 2005, 11:31:42 AM
I tried a search on this but I have not had much luck.  I need to know which line goes to which hole on the rack.  I am adapting a GM pump to a Mustang II power rack.  I figured it was easier to admit my ignorance and just ask the question.

According to the instructions with a hose kit I have, the smaller port is the pressure side, and the larger is the return.

Thanks, that is consistent with some information I got off the HAMB from a post by El Plolocko.

That's the way mine is hooked up too, you'll know if they are wrong, when you turn the steering wheel the tires will go full lock one way and want to stay there...then you switch the lines...

Well there is something screwy about my fittings as the double flare stuff is not going to work.  I will make my 3rd trip to the parts store in the morning.  I am trying to figure out what will work for the connection to the rack.

It's been about 12 years since I did mine, but I know that I couldn't find any fittings at the time to make the G.M. pump fit the Must II rack, i had to have a line made for it. I thought someone made a line for that now....

The rack has a metric O ring fitting. one is 14 mm, the other is 16mm. I believe the weatherhead adapter numbers are 1460, and 1462, to adapt them to JIC -6 flare fittings. May be wrong on the numbers, my books aren't here.

I wasted a great deal of time making my own hoses.  The best way to finish it off is to order from Gottashow.com  It isn't cheap but I guarantee you the aggravation isn't worth it.

I got my kit from Fatman and it has all the adapters.  Not sure what they get for it, it came with a hub-to-hub kit I bought for the Packrod.

I will let you know how your memory is working a little later today.  Thanks

the correct numbers are 1445, and 1446. They will adapt it to 3/8" inverted flare.

I checked their site on the net and that looks like what I need.  The problem may be that I do not know of a Eaton Weatherhead dealer locally but I maybe able to locate one.  My auto parts guys quit handling that brand a couple of years ago but we may be able to cross reference the numbers to another company.  Thanks again for checking the numbers.

NAPA stores can get them if they don't stock them. If you can't find them, let me know, I think I have some here.

The NAPA store closed here in town a few years back.  I guess they must be a good source for parts but we do not have many in this area.  I will probably be able to find what I need but I may have to search a little.  I am not in a big rush, just working on the car.

Update.  I found a NAPA store that ordered the fittings and I got them in yesterday.  The large one for the return seems to be just fine but the smaller (14 mm) pressure one is to big.  I may order a new mustang power steering hose and then have it adapted to the pump.  Good news is the NAPA store was only 15 miles away and they seem to have a good inventory.  Now when you guys give information on NAPA parts, I have a source.

You might try a 1440 adapter, it goes to 3/8 JIC on the other end, but should work on the rack pressure port.
