Title: HRI Refugees
Post by: Jahoota on February 23, 2005, 02:35:35 AM
I thought I'd start a thread where new HRI refugees can introduce ourselves to everyone else here at the RRT! Whilst some HRI members are already here, it looks like there is a pile of newbies signing on as knights!

enough craping on, he's me!

Had a model A roadster pickup on the go but had to sell it just to survive when I & the ex split (it was the very last thing I sold tho and I held out till the emd!!!    )

Anyway, I now have a set of original A rails and rear X member and am  starting to slowy collect pieces to build up the chassis. The body will probably be a fully fendered phantom A tourer (2 door, vicky style back). Also, hopefully by the end of the year I hope to purchase a 50-54 chev as a second car to the grocery getter! Hopefully lower it, seude black paint (maybe scallops) and painted steelies, just for crusing about.

Pretty much love all rods & kustoms, and also like US 60's muscle cars (them 67/8/9 Camaro's are the goods)

I, like plenty of newer rodders (if age 41 is newer!    ) dont have a trade background. More a business one. That said, I'm reasonably handy and I'm not afraid to ask dumb questions. I didnt ask 'em in the past when I should of, especially when it came to rodding. I guess if we learn the lesson its OK!

I dont bite and I dont have intentions of suing anybody, no matter what names they call me!  :P

I think you've been hanging around Dave too long!

The RRT was the first Hot Rod Forum I ever joined. Although I've got a handful of posts on this iteration, I was a more regular poster when there weren't any other options.

I met many people in the US through the RRT and enjoyed accommodation and hospitality while over there during my honeymoon. I just hope one day some of you Seppos will come down under and we can return the favour.

You may have to be driven around in 1950 Zorch Street Custom (Aussie joke), but we'll be able to talk about the days when hiboy roadsters terrorised the streets and everyone had a good time.

Hopefully that last bit will never happen!

Anyway, you guys have been warned, although you've survived over 5 years of my crap, so you should be able to handle a few more Aussies. :)

OK I'll put my hand up, I have been a member of this forum for a while, I do drop in and see what's going on, however I post (or rather did post) mostly on the other board.

I am a first time rod builder, my project is a 30-31 Ford closed cab pickup. I started with 4 panels – 2 doors, a cowl and a back panel. The pickup is on repro A rails, it has a  RodTech independent front end, 8inch rear with triangulated 4 bar and coilovers, also 302 Windsor / C4.

I hope I can add to this forum and others from the other site find their way here as they are a good bunch.

Hi Guys,

I have come over here too. I guess I am a wannabe rodder. At the moment family and and resources leave me only tinkering with VWs but the Aussie HRI has been very helpful for me steeling my ideas about what I want when I can get a rod sometime in the future.

The people there have been great and accepting of a guy whose only input into the scene is art, photography and zealousness ... and the occassional bit of technical knowledge that I may have happened to stumble across.

Thanks to you guys for having us here.

I for one am glad you guys have joined us here. Now Carps won't be the only one posting here with an accent!

For those of you that may make it here for the L.A. Roadster Show in June, common over to my place for a BBQ Saturday night. It's our not quite annual event. There is a thread sum place here (RRT Haute Cuisine Tour 2005) about it. A weeks worth of cruzin, mfg shop tours and did I say Cruzin.

If ya make it the week before (June 12), the Road Kings do their annual FREE car show at Johnny Carson Park in Beautiful down town Burbank. Last year there were over 700 cars.

Welcome again, what can we do to make you feel welcomed?

Quote from: "choco"So where is Dolly? And Dolly's Boyfriend?

I would think that if Carps is dumbfounded at the situation with the ASRF big wig that Dolly is at a loss for words as well. But I'll bet both of them step up with a few words on the subject before all's said and done.

Something as dramatic as Mr Tudman's lack of guts to stand and fight his battles like a man instead of sicing the ambulance chasers after Greg will elicit some comment from Carps sooner or later.

This is a sad day for the ASRF organization and it seems to me a no confidence campaign is in order as y'all seem to rely heavily on what it does for you politically. Take back the control! THROW THE BUM OUT!

Don't tell Sue I did that. @3$! I said sue. I hate that word.

Maybe I should have called myself "Prince of Darkness"

Can't wait til the next club meeting. It'll be a combination of "it' hitting the fan and a lot of stunned mullets.

That, and jahoota telling us all about these car plans.

Of course, that'll be after the ASRF meeting. Which for some perverse reason I think I'll attend - for the first time ever.

Thanks for posting the shots of the car on my behalf. I'm better at cars than computers.

ahhhh, Mr X38. Nice to see you pop up a few places. I think Brootal jealous he doesn't have a car to actually keep clean! (well, wipe off the hair grease on a weekly basis)

my grand plans? should take me about 30 secs to explain at the club  meeting (cant see it being discussed tho!) and about 20 years to finish at the current rate ((or rather the rate at which I pay the ex maintenance (alimony? for our northern brethern!)).  Awwww, c'mon, I have dave's rusty old A rails and rear X member. Not forgetting the A grill shell I was going to turn into a BBQ grill (much to Bcal's horror    ) I'm only about a zillion parts away!

jahooooota, I'm doing an A for someone at the moment, beam axle front etc. You should take a peek some time. Since you've got some (unacceptable word) reason for not coming on the garage crawl.

I think an in-person checkout of that south Winsor address is in order. Not overly convinced about quality from the website.

AJ works at ozrods now. maybe you should chase him re. the vicky tourer body whereabouts etc.

Did I mention how much I hate bloodsucking ambulance chasers?

I just hope you 'murrricans know what you're getting yourselves into inviting all the ratbags over here to mess up your fine board with strange language and all their irreverant jokularity.  I figure if the people back home can't see the humour in their wit, what hope have you guys?    :?

And for you Aussies, this is not just like coming home for Dolly, it's her birthplace, so don't you be givin her any lip, coz she's got a couple or three friends here.

A pic of my new ride, it is currently still in California awaiting shipment. I intend to lower it heaps and run a hot flathead, maybe blown, not positive at this stage. Last car was a 32 Ford V8 sedan, original flathead, nice car, drove it almost every day. You can see I am a flathead man, have a lot of bits collected in my shed.

This feels like home, except for the "nice yellow" background.
Hi Guys and Girls.
A little about me for those who dont know me (most of you Im guessing).
My username. It originated from my roundy racing days, I often drove with one arm resting on the door, under race conditions, and was nicknamed Mr Cool because of this driving style.
My cars. Just completed a '29 A tudor and about to be fully registered, the ASRF can stick their SR plates (limited rego). Runs a late model injected 5.0 engine, T700, BIG brakes etc.
Also have my original roundy racecar - an ex-bathurst Group C touring car, under construction a 28 Chev roadster pickup for a work truck and a blown/injected 5 litre in a little pommy Mk2 escort.
Was a member of HRI for about as long as it was alive, and need my daily "hotrod fix".
I tend to be a bit of a stirrer of some sort, so if I offend anyone, let me know and I'll back off a bit.
I'll post a pic of the cars when I get a chance.

I will indeed potter over for a peek at the A at some stage as it looks like kids sport will consume my saturday duties on the scheduled morning of the clubs gargage/beer crawl.  :(

I reckon I'm about 12-18 months off buying a body. That time frame should sort the newer tupperware players from the stayers!  Those AJ's bodies appear to have ended up at Tamworth.  The Hot Rod Factory up in brisbane claims that they will also be making this style of body.

There seemed to be a nice blue one floating around valla (from what I can see from the pics) but I havent seen a feature on it yet or attempted to track down the owner to find out where he/she/it got it from.

Cant see me plonkling good cash down with any of the current 3 players of this style of body without a good hard look first!  The words "road trip" spring to mind.  I wonder if pete osbourne in NZ has a mold for these style of bodies  :?: Think I'll have to go google that...

jahoota, I've been to the Hot Rod Factory, so I can talk to you about that. The Tamworth dude has a website. Unfortunately not all body styles are photographs. That's a ? So we'll have to see. Literally. Besides which, you can't trust photos anyway.

There must be at least one finished one of this phantom body styles around town you could track down - I've seen a black/BBford one at the Bobbin Head run for starters.

I can't believe you just let me into your country like that

What no Detention Centre ???, how un-Australian of you !!

This all looks fairly familiar......same Icons, same buttons, same emoticons I'm too stupid too use

Guess I can get used to this........

Except the colors (USA spelling already!)

That background looks like tummy juice........the last stuff to come out just before the carrots !

But what color are the highlights? Babbypoo?? CatPuke ????

Actually come to think of it the decore looks a bit like a detention centre.....and where theres a detention centre......theres lawyers!

What's da spull chuck buddon doo???

Well Gidday .. finally made it ... been flat out changin tyres for new 'tires' .. lucky i had a ' quart' bottle to do oil change but wot really stumped me was after i removed the mudguards i couldnt find any 'fenders'

So HRI is no longer and RRT is our new home .. I havent been here in ages .. so a re introduction..

I've been about the rodding scene over 35 years .. seen a lot of change (most for the better) but never seen or heard of anything as ludicrious as our recent plight.

Our stable presently consists of 26 Rugby 2dr Tourer .. 350 chev T400 n Jag Rear .. Missus has a 52 Morris 2 dr Topless .. teenage son has a 65 Falcon S/W we're building it into a 'woody' and a Rat Rod built from a collection of junk ( I'm a towie n collect un wanted cars)

Also picked up (free) last Sat a 74 Toyota Corolla 2dr .. fitted with twin cam 2T motor  ... this lil sucker really flies .... gonna be the family "drag" car ..... Carps tells me they're quite rare and he's gonna see if toyota have got any left over 'go faster bits' from their program .

Notice Mr Cool is here and says he will go easy ......... not a chance !! watch him he's bluffing ... and a word of warning , never leave ur jumper (sweater) lying about if he's near .. they tend to have one sleeve stitched closed after he's gone !!!

Nice spot here .. but where's all the Trees ????

Hi All,
I'm back for a bit.
After running the Melbourne Hot Rod Show in Melbourne at the end of January, I took a little break from rodding to catch up on some events happenng at home, only to tune in at the end of the big blow up.
I think that I was lucky because sometimes I have a big mouth and may have got myself into hot water, as it is I did not see any of the post that caused all the trouble.
For you Aussies that know me, I'll let you know what I'm up to.
I've finished with the Hot Rod Show as of this one and am shifting down Sparks way to Mertung, near Lakes Entrance. I have already taken posession of the house but am still waiting to sell my house( If any of you Yanks wanta little joint Down Under awith a large garage lets know
http://www.realestate.com.au/cgi-bin/rsearch?a=o&ag=&s=vic&c=74704346&tm=1109550234&id=102179872&f=0&p=10&t=res&ty=&snf=rbs&cu=&fmt=&header= I'm also in the middle of selling my business, so you can see things have been a bit busy at the moment.
I'm also trying to arrange the building of a garage from 300k away, (180 miles for the Yanks), My new next door neighbour( Slim Dusty) died last year so can't call on him to help, and now there is talk of shutting the local pub because of Land Tax. Hey Slim maybe the song "Pub With No Beer" could have been about Metung.
Good to see you all.

"Old 32": no wonder you're selling that old dump! Not enough garage space!
"Halfdone": Slightly off topic here, but re the tummy juice and carrots: did you know all male (and a few female) humans have a carrot gland?
You can tell because no matter how long ago you ate carrots, there's always some in the juice. I know of some confirmed carnivors who have been known to eject carrots, finely diced, even though they have never had them.
I think the carrot gland makes carrots out of alcohol.

Im not a trade type person, so i  prolly dont have much to offer, I guess im more a parasite when it comes to info about rods, hope ya dont mind.

Not quite full retirement, hope to pick up a couple of days a week localy.
The area is great, I'm 50yards from my own jetty(half share anywy) up Chinamans Creek. Straight after building a decent shed to put the roadster in I'll be looking for a boat to cruze around in.

Except for your age shown here as 16 (and I know you are much older than that - You Big Kuddly Koala ) do you MrCarps not see the respect I give you by calling you Mr. ?
Perhaps MrCarps you will notice I refer to most here as Mr (or Mrs) out of the respect they deserve.
As for calling me a clown - do you truly think me a fool ? If you where a 16 year old boy with a doll I could then say you have a problem, but a man of your age still playing with Dolls ( and Teddy Bears too I see ).

Now to believe your Doll has a boyfriend I have to ask what is going on these days at Toyota  :?:

Unless you are confirming your identity as Dolly's alleged Boyfreind, then I never called YOU a clown.

On the other hand the entity who posted on the HRI using the name 'Dolly's Boyfriend', made me laugh more than Ronald McDonald, so I figure he must be a clown.

Your concern that the doll has a boyfriend kinda mkes me think you are the same person who claims to be "Dolly's Boyfriend' which makes you a lot sicker than I'll ever be, epecially considering she actually resides here at my house and I'm not dreaming of sleeping with her.

g'day guys, bad news about HRI- dont know what happened but we're the ones who miss out in the end....I might try to get another one up and running..My brother owns a computer firm in melbourne so i might hit him up to host it... I have been a member of both HRI and RRT for a short time, the regulars of HRI might remember the 48 chev sedan i'm building for a wedding that's this weekend, sceptical bunch reckoned i wouldn't get it done in time...all thats left to do is chuck the interior in, bleed the brakes,
polish it and put drivers window in and its done...a week to spare..we've basically built it in four months after hours and weekends...will post some photos on here when i work out how.... :?

Cool23 - most of us were here before HRI got started...this is the 2nd incantation of RRT.
If i were to pass an opinion, I'd say HRI was the orginal & the best Aussie based website & RRT being the original & the best US based website. There are only 3 or 4 people from the original first page of RRt still here. One from Aust, NZ, USA & Canada. That was back when you only had to check your question every fortnight...if you were real lucky there'd be an answer within 7 days, but not often.
That was a loooong time ago.

Oh and yeah I mainly lurk nowadays, but hope RRT keeps going as well as it does & that we see the return of HRI. Not worried about posts being saved or user history. I haven't posted a lot but I'm only down on RRT as being here a short while, several years less than it is. I think a purge of 'posted stuff' isn't a bad thing. Good stuff is lost for sure, but it's still out there & too bad about the rubbish posts. I shake my head on some sites & just pass over the ones titled something like "Check this out on eBay"

Ahh well it's all good in the long run & hope all goes well for HRI & the very good people who made it work.

If you want to change the colors to that of HRI, you can do it through the profiles (right next to the "you have no new messages" button near the top of the page). Click on "profile" tab, then the "Your profile" tab, and then select "profile settings" on the left side of the window.
The second option on the right side of the window will show "board style" and select HRI layout from the drop-down box.
Simple to do and no yucky yellow.  :D

Now don't be too hard on the man. Us techno-types sometimes look too deeply into an issue and fail to see what lesser intellects easily find. (Has to do with target audience and lowest-common denominators etc)...

Hello all,

Same story, but for those that don't know, heres some info about 'me'....

Long time lurker, 'first' joined the RRT about 2 or 3 years ago (cant find my password, and my email has changed so I can't retrieve my old post count etc).

I recently turned 30, married to Carla, I 'work' as a 'Design Engineer' for a mining company, and currently building (although I haven't touched it for 6 months due to house renovations & a thing called 'life' etc) a 28 roadster pickup.....

Also a big 'salt racing' fan, I'll be heading over to 'B/ville' in August, and will be exploring California for the remainder of the month, so I hope to meet up with some of you guys along the way.

Plenty of dreams and aspirations for future cars, and on the hunt for a HEMI (like everyone else I suppose).

Anyhow, look forward to spending a bit more time, and getting involved, since HRI has shut shop.

Cheers,

Drewfus

Bill! You know the value of global friendship. The difference between American and Canadian culture is minute compared to our Aussie compadres. As Hot Rodders we all speak the same lingo. The slang only adds to the romance! A couple years ago I had the pleasure of hosting a couple of bikers from Australia who where touring through our village on their jourmey through North America with their focus on Harley's 100th birthday. 18,000 Kms. in 49 Days! What a commitment. These fine gentlement came through our shop and spent the day with us ( In fact, after many "Buds" they spent the night at my home!. A friendship was spawned!  Shane, after touring my "field of dreams" fell in love with my '60 Olds bubbletop. The following spring he called and asked me to build the car in our shop. This summer he and Cindy will be coming to North America to retreive the Olds and take it to a few shows in the USA before shipping it back to Australia. The debut event will be the Back to the 50's in St. Paul Minnesota. in June. Look for the primered peacock blue Olds with 20" Coloradas and air ride.Oh Ya! check out the right hand steering and the bald guy with the * eating grin!

Smartest thing you've ever done. Sell a Clevo (truck engine) so that you can get a HEMI. You're my hero. :)

So how much of the HEMI do you think you'll get with the money you get from the Clevo?

Chev owners could get real nasty here.

Quote from: "38HAULR"Hey Carps, are you getting a regular roving reporter,s gig on "RODDERS LIFE"?.Enjoyed the presentation from the hot rod show.........Frank.

I've already done a couple of sessions with Mick and whenever he turns up at an event where I'm present, we'll be doing something I'm sure.

I'm also in the process of converting a lot of my old analogue footage to digital so i can burn it to DVDs.  Whilst it's not broadcast quality footage, it's not that bad that mick can't use it as filler, so keep an eye out and you' may even see some of the characters from the RRT on Aussie Tee Vee.

Quote from: "TJ's Dad"Hmmmm  ... wonder who ya ol man is ??? [/'quote]
Old being the operative word, I'm reliably informed that to be a meber of his club you mus have your 'full' pensioner card.

And would a younger rodder 'forget' there's a cruise night happening?

QuoteI been to every Nats and keep seein that ol 40.

You mean that * yeller forty that way back had lotsa headlamps and big ugly tailamps?

QuoteNow we know ya ... I'll 2nd him Fat Cat.
Oh, I dunno, do we really need some young fella doin donuts on here in his dad's car?

Hmm, sounds like fun, OK, I'll third him.

Quote from: "mrloboy"Bill! You know the value of global friendship. The difference between American and Canadian culture is minute compared to our Aussie compadres.
Kerecktomundo, we don't need no stinkin cultcha!

QuoteAs Hot Rodders we all speak the same lingo.
Yup, and we all perve on purdy gurlz too!

QuoteThe slang only adds to the romance!
Yup, and some of us do get lucky with the purdy gurlz.

QuoteA couple years ago I had the pleasure of hosting a couple of bikers from Australia who where touring through our village on their jourmey through North America with their focus on Harley's 100th birthday. 18,000 Kms. in 49 Days! What a commitment.
Yup. my gurl often sez i should be committed.

QuoteThese fine gentlement came through our shop and spent the day with us ( In fact, after many "Buds" they spent the night at my home!.
Them bluddy Aussie are like that, gime em an inch and they'll take a mile.

QuoteA friendship was spawned!
A great result and in all seriousness, the deal runs both ways and there's plenty a Murrican or Furrin rodder spent time visiting with Aussie Rodders.  Ive even enjoyed showing non rodding relatives of my furrin rodding pals around my town, ot what freinds do.

QuoteShane, after touring my "field of dreams" fell in love with my '60 Olds bubbletop. The following spring he called and asked me to build the car in our shop. This summer he and Cindy will be coming to North America to retreive the Olds and take it to a few shows in the USA before shipping it back to Australia.
WOW a rich Aussie.  You aint got a mint but dirt cheap '57 Olds coupe with J2 and three speed stick lurkin about in the back of your shop have you?

QuoteThe debut event will be the Back to the 50's in St. Paul Minnesota. in June. Look for the primered peacock blue Olds with 20" Coloradas and air ride.Oh Ya! check out the right hand steering and the bald guy with the #### eating grin!
Hmm, I'm thinking that the grin has something to do with a cat, but it's not our illustrious host you were talknig about.

Hi Fellas, knew I was missing something, great to see the old banter hasn't changed.

Information for our hosts:-I am building a 1948 Ford Delux Panel Van (aussie model)with a 351C & C10 & one of my daily drivers is a 62 Falcon ute with a 302 windsor V8 (Only 6 cylinders made in OZ)

I am having problems posting the avatar which I took back from HRI before it ended. I have shrunk it to 4K & it still won't let me put it on stating it's over 6k.  I was wondering, were the avatars protected in some way??

6k is only the file size limit. There is also a limit on the dimensional size of 80x80 pixels.

A little knowledge is dangerous, I have been trying to put this avatar on for days, It appears I saved it as some weird configuration & and by simply converting it to a JPeg file, it's accepted.  (I hope)

Now U listen to me young man, I knew U was in 'ere, but I thought Id be polite to those nice American folks and say Hello on what looked, at the time, like the only place not infiltrated by BLOODY AUSTRALIAN's! But then I had another look I was even wrong about that! Do those poor guys know what is ahead of them, with you mob all together?  I guess as soon as they find out, we will see the reappearance of our beloved HRIBR site back up and running
