Title: Model A hinges?
Post by: spark on February 09, 2005, 11:38:46 PM
Hi every one, I don't post here often but look in to see what's up from time to time.

I'm getting ready to do the body work on my 30-31 model A closed cab pickup.
The hinges are very sloppy and I can't find any one that sells repo hinges, I was thinking of using hidden hinges instead. Any body have advice or know where I can get hidden hinges or replacement 30 ford ones?

Heres a link to my build pix, I haven't up dated it for while but you get the idea-

Try Wescotts Catalog. They have a selection of hinges. They are online.

Hidden hinges on a Model A have a tendency to make the doors open downward due to the curvature of the lower cowl. They're not too bad when you suicide the doors because the lower rear edges of the doors are not as curved.

Snyders Antique Auto in Ohio sells repro hinges. They are a little pricy, but if the quality is anything like the parts I've bought from them they shouldn't take much to have them in perfect working order.

Heres a link directly to the hinges:

Hope this helps,

I'm also building a closed cab A, (1928) and since I'm here in Ohio I have used Snyder's quite a bit. I am very impressed with there quality of parts and they have even kept the showroom open one night so I could pick the parts up....pretty impressive operation all the way around. :D
