Do you think I should drain the old gas from the tank, about 6 gallons, before attempting to fire and run? It has been sitting for a good two years since last fired. At that time I had mixed the last residual tank amount with a fill-up of fresh Hi-test, with no problems and that gas had been left over from a short run season prior.

If it's easily drained, I probably would drain it. I have the same deal on the Marlin, the last time I filled it was October of 2017. I have not decided what to do. It has been started but not run for a significant amount of time.
I am never working on anything important but when that comes up, I go by the smell. Two years and not much of it? Freshen it a dab maybe, but mostly just fire the thing up and run it almost out of gas as soon as possible. If it doesn't have "that smell" of old gas. If it smells old at all, I would prefer to not use it. Just my two cents.
I think I would drain it. I just did that on my '46 Chevy after an about five year hiatus. Luckily it still has the stock tank, with a drain plug in it. Now I just got to figure out what to do with six gallons of old gas, it still smell good...

In the old days I'd just save it to run the lawn mower on. Now-a-days even some mowers won't run on anything older than 90 days. GPster

And besides that I have an electric/battery mower and string trimmer now, so that's not even an option. I'm not even gonna try it in my generator, too important to trust old gas in it. Maybe just add a gallon to the car and truck after a fill up.

The gas in the tank might still work but it has degraded and to be safe I'd probably drain it. You might find that the bigger problem could be a gunked up carburetor. Good luck Frank.

if this is modern blended gasoline ethanol type , not regualr olde unleaded gasoline..... the new blended gasoline tends to jell up with goo in the carb or injectors. Cloggs fuel filters.
I too would drain it .....Add a gallon or so to the tank & wiggle the car like crazy to "slosh" it around .....Drain that & dispose of it all ..... It makes excellent weed killer .... :idea: :lol:

Well, that's certainly a draining consensus.
I have to admit that I did think of using the old gas with a little fresh mixed in, for lawnmower fuel if nothing else. Now even that is questionable! I just cleaned that goo out of the edger carb, wondered what is was, so I do know what happens if it go's bad, gooey bad. Yikes.
With a trunk tank and a bottom of the tank fuel pick-up I think I'll be syphoning out the gas and might even do a little sloshing.
Thanks for the advice from all and George, I can't promise anything as those old tires are next on the list. Don't want to venture to far from home these days. I do miss those group tent gatherings and tutoring talks.
Speaking of tires, what on earth is that "browning" on the sidewalls? This isn't getting any easier.
I'm with Ken these days, old(er) and slow(er).

Louisville at this time isn't possible. We've got some health issues at home that need my attention so road trips and overnighters are out.
It looks like it is probably going to be a good gathering of the clan. My feet are hurting just thinking of the swap and the big hall not to mention the grounds that need covering. Enjoy yourself and safe travels to all.
I hope the weather is good for those who attend though I suspect ungodly hot with one wild thunderstorm, just to keep your attention.

Yes, drain it. The convert sat for a few years and I drained it a couple years ago when I rehabbed the fuel system. Have since run that through and need to do a refill at the station this week. I've completedthe repaint on the convert but have a couple days of reassembly yet.
After that a test run or two and some carpeting and seat belts. Louisville or bust.
With your running schedule for that car, there is a lot to be said for storing it with av gas in it.
