Title: long time, no post, new question
Post by: Jokester on March 19, 2019, 12:49:09 AM
Lost my link, but finally found my way back.

I have an ABS question.  Can you change from 225/55R17 to 235/55R17 tires on one axle without screwing up the ABS?  It's a 2013 Impala.

I have 2 decent 235s left over from another vehicle and hate to buy two new 225s if I can avoid it.  Cheap ya know.

thx.

I would think it would be fine . The ABS will just read the wheel speed and as it goes close to lock up will apply/release the near lock up wheels.I would guess you have 4 circuit ABS on that car . you have tires that are 11mm larger in diameter or about a 2% difference in circumference

Those are the sizes on my 99 GTP and for the same reason. I run with ABS disabled but also think you are OK. On mine, 235s rub a little where 225s do not. So they stay on the rear where they barely rub with low tread. They never wear out on the back. I have been using the 225/55R17 Douglas "performance" tire (on Mustang wheels) for around $70 apiece at WM and while they don't last forever or do superbly in rain, they seem good for the price. Round and quiet.
