What do you think? 7.3 turbo diesel
low mile shop truck?
Looks like an ambulance. Hope we don't need it! :)
Will that pass for a motor home so you can buy cheap plates? GPster

Yes, with a little work.
Gonna leave the siren on it to scare the neighbors??? Plans?

A tow vehicle I can sleep in.

I'd make dang sure the vehicle does not look like an ambulance anylonger if you are gonna sleep in it. At your age, some one may make a mistake if they find you in a deep sleep

Stacks, flames, retro grille maybe round headlamps. Ditch lighting, log cabin wrap box. Perfect! :D
A guy at our drag strip used to tow his open car trailer with one. perfect workshop with serious lighting for night races . Lots of cabinets and easy to air condition .
Slick!!
NICE !
I have been looking at similar vehicles for a while.
The 7.3 is the best diesel going. (Most of the old mechanical 5.9 Cummins trucks are used up)
If you are wanting cheap fuel they tolerate waste veggie oil pretty well. You would need to add another tank and heaters especially in your location.
Where did you buy it from? Were all the stickers off or did you have to do that?
How are the boxes made on these, aluminum sheet over square steel framework? I was considering an ambulance or shuttle bus to haul my little tractor. I would need to remove all the compartments in the ambulance for the tractor to fit. I was wondering if an enclosed trailer shop would remove the sides and rear entry door to add flat sides (no compartments) and rear ramp door.
A local airport parking garage has shuttle busses for sale now that have CNG V10 motors in them. All the motors are junk. They would need a motor swap. They are selling cheap. I don't think I want to do a motor swap in a van cab. A Ford motor would fit the current transmission, but I know nothing about the Ford stuff.
I bought it from a private owner, who bought it from a EMS squad in Michigan. He used it to tow a camper, claimed 10 mpg towing a 28 footer. He took all the stickers off. The inside has all the cabinets still in place, I am still in planning mode. To register as a RV in Ohio, I have to have a bed, a stove, a table, and either a refrigerator or ice box. This is a Marque body, and measures 52" between the cabinets. If you removed them, you can gain about 5" on each side between the wheel wells. It has a 110 inverter, 1500W, and can use shore power 110 also.
It has 410,000 miles on it, drives like a new one. According to the stickers, and the log book, it has been on synthetic oil from new, right now it has Amsoil in it.
You might look at some of the older Internationals, they also had a 7.3 in them, with an Allison transmission.

Well, it already has a bed...unless it got left at the hospital.
awesome motors.....all you need is a spare $40 cam sensor in the glovebox.
watch the trans temps, if you pull a grade with a trailer, that was the weakspot on the 7.3. We upfit them with the newer 2008-2010 6.4 liter trans cooler and really helped them out.

It has a trans temperature gauge in it. What temperature is safe?

Are there special "Docing" fee's ???
( Somebody had to do it .... )
Bob ...
Nice find Frank.
You could always name it 'The Meat Wagon' and make some extra cash selling things like Frank-furters, Sam-burgers, Adams ribs, Ghoulash, Chuck steaks, Sue-shi, Finger sandwiches, and Roadkill stew with a Bloody Mary.

200 to 220 is normal......and I spoke wrong it was a 6.0 Trans cooler we were up fitting with

Thanks Glen.
Frank, You made me do it. I just bid on one in AL.
There are 2 days left in the auction so I probably won't be successful.
It's an '03 with 212k miles. It's just out of service and still all stickered up.
I wonder how I would get all the decals off? The aluminum sheeting makes it a little more challenging. Oven cleaner works to get painted lettering off, but I doubt it is the right thing for decals on aluminum. There are local shops that install vinyl. I wonder if they remove it also??

One of these, they work great. a little mineral spirits gets the last bit of glue.

We use a heat gun. They usually come right off.

I worked at a place where we used these in the shop...or rather a similar Snap On product. http://www.amazon.com/3M-Stripe-Wheel-Mandrel-Diameter/dp/B00063VT0G
They worked great on aluminum trailers as well as aluminum or composite truck cabs. Once they used them to take all the old, cracked graphics off an 80s Trans Am complete with screaming chicken on the hood.
enjenjo - We need an update on this project.

Outside of ordering some parts it's been on hold until I get some of this other stuff done. To qualify for RV status in Ohio, it has to have a means of cooking, a bed, cold food storage, and a table. In addition we want a small sink for washing up, and a porta-potty. It has a small closet with a power vent that will work for the porta-potty, and a bench on one side that can be made into a bed. I am looking at a 12 volt refrigerators made for truck sleepers, they will cool to 40 degrees, and draw less than three amps. Since I have an invertor, I think it will get a 700 Watt microwave, and a two burner gas cook top. I have a small sink out of a motor home, with a 12 volt demand pump. The only thing I have not figured out yet is the table.
Gee Frank ... Why not incorporate the RRT/BBQ trailer into the build :?:
In a few years you could bring it to K-Zoo & all the other favorite shows ....  :P
Bob ..

How about a folding card table? Put a couple of small hooks on one side and hang it on a side wall. Nothing says you have to use the table inside the RV.
