Title: Another 8 inch question
Post by: junkyardjeff on November 30, 2009, 11:35:53 PM
The same 8 inch with questionable axle end play also will make a noise when I am on the gas and will go away when I let off and what would the cause of that be,I plan on a gear change due to too tall of gears (2.79 to at least 3.00) and I am planning a change so would a bearing kit along with a new ring and pinion get rid of the noise.

I've seen them do that with a pinion bearing problem.

It may be a bad setup on the gears, too much backlash. A new gear, setup tigh should fix it.

But combined with you axle end play, it may be a bad wheel bearing too.

The 8" in my coupe was doing that and it turned out that the pinion nut had backed off a bit somehow. Tightened that up and it was fine.
