So when do we want to do the next build day? We are now far enough along that we can use a few more people for the next one. I am busy the next three weekends, but open after that.
I sure would like to make one. When you pick one I will try to make it.
Well I need some input on the date. I can do most weekends if I plan in advance.
The first weekend that I'l be free is the 24th of Oct. There's a wedding and an OU home football game that Linda and I have been elected to kid watch during. Then Linda is traveling from the 12th to the 18th so I'll be making trips to the airport and dog watching between those times. I'll be ready by then. GPster
I have company next week and the 12th of Oct I'm going to the U.P. for a week. After the 19th I am open for a few weekends, then deer season starts...
We are pretty tied up ourselves until after the Adrian swap so this month is pretty booked up!
Try again, we still have to come up with a build day. any date suggestions?
I'm probably not a candidate for anything til next year. I've got to doctor appointments and at least two Christmases planned. We haven't even started filling out next years calendar yet. I'm sure there will be time but I don't know when yet. GPster
I was thinking about the Crosley last night. I'm good for most anytime you come up with.
Hopefully we get a little more talent than I bring to the group...but I make a hell of a go-fer. Promise not to break any more taps.
QuotePromise not to break any more taps.
If you learned any thing it was worth it.
We are far enough along that we can work on several projects at the same time now. One crew on the body, one on the frame, and a third on the suspension.
I picked up some Volvo front ehd parts, steering box, spindles and brakes, actually the whole front suspension. Nice and light, and plenty strong enough for our build.
I'm off between Christmas and New Years.
I'm off now, but only a bubble or two...

or 3 or4....................
I am also "Not Working" between the holidays so that would be a good time for me
A weekday between christmas and new year?

How about Tuesday the 29th? That would give me Monday to drive up and Wednesday to drive home. That would get my driving done between the Holidays. I'm anxious to see what Volvo front suspension parts look like and how we might use them. Our Christmas starts on the 18th and I'm sure by the 28th I'll be ready to be somewhere else. GPster
Works for me Joe. Anyone else on board?
Baring the unforseen I should be able to make that day.
Looks like Joe picked the day. Note that this is weather dependent. If there is a big storm, all bets are off.
Me and my bubbles should make it. Court can drive. I'm old.
The 29th is ok with me too. I'll bring the lump of coal Santa leaves me....it might be cold.

That may or may not beat warm and steaming...you decide.

Hot and steamy isn't in my options either. Nirvana for me is 64 in the winter and 72 in the summer. 8)
Ok, the next build day is a week from today, the 29th at 10 am. I need an idea how many are coming. Let me know here.
again sorry , I will not be there.
8)
I'll be there. Maybe this time I'll remember to bring those bolts so that we'll have more to complete that 4 bar rear end set-up. I don't want to slack off on my part of making it a "Roller". GPster
Frank
What are the targeted tasks for this build day? If metal work I will bring my hammers etc.

Well, we have the doors done from last time, or nearly done. So we can finish any thing that needs done there. Then we can finish jigging the dorrs in place on our table, and installing the panels around them. Your body tools would come in handy there.
I have the Volvo front end parts, we can decide how to use them, and get them prepared for use.
The Volvo steering box will need to be modified by shortening the shaft.
We can jig the rear axle housing, and get that set up for the 4 link. brackets.
Okie Dokie Hammers etc it is!
I'll be there :D
are you guys needing any parts from a 3/4 ton 77 suburban?
after i pull the engine and maybe trans (it's cooked), the rest is crusher-bait
probably in the next couple of weeks...
have you got the r.e. housing?
i've got a couple- 3-4 9" housings laying around, hell, i'll cut 'em to width.
i need the practice..

We have housings here. I have one cut down to just the center, and tubing for a retube on it.
I can't think of any thing we can use off the truck at this point.
just thought i'd offer.
i try not to keep TOO much scrap around here and thought if there was something you can use....
I'm off on Sunday and Monday so I can't make it.

Sorry to hear that Tom.
I will be there if the weather is not bad,

I suppose I'd better start checking the weather too. I'm not concerned about what it will be Tuesday but tomorrow and Wednesday will be driving days. Maybe I'd better start looking for some junk to put in the bed of my truck for ballast. GPster
We'll decide tonight if it's on or not. It's up to those doing the traveling.
I'm going to pass (chicken out) on tomorrow because of the weather today and the prediction for Wednesday. GPster

OK Joe, no problem. I would rather see you safe.
Sorry, but I can't make the build this time either. Busy time of year and the weather doesn't look that good either.
Ken
No problem Ken.
Glad we made it for the time we did. Came home, did chores and dinner, now off to Hudson.
Court wants to know if you'd sell him about 1 1/2-2' of the 2" x 3" tubing you've got for the frame. He needs to stretch his frame about 4 1/2". I think we should just go buy some because we'll need to put some bracing in it for the car if he decides to hard top it.
Fogot to ask you, Frank, did you say you might have one or two El Dorado/Toronado wheels? The Packard rims we got yesterday are too shallow and JUST hit the rotors. A 1/8" spacer would do me but they are 5 1/2" rims.
Looks like I may go junk yarding...
Happy New Year to all!
I dug out a piece of tubing while you were in the house, forgot to give it to you. It's about 13" long, is that enough?
Did you leave my socket here, or forget it?
Do you need a 4 3/4" bolt pattern, or 5"?
I spent a half hour doing a long post, the power went out before I could post it.
We had Danimal and his boys, Fatcat, Moose, Hot Rod Purple Pickup, and me here for the build day. We reworked the door frames so the doors fit much better now. Then we squared them up on the body jig, and installed the cowl top with Clecos. We finished fabricating the cowl sides, and got them Clecoed into place, along with the quarter panels. It's starting to look like a car.
I picked up a Volvo front end from Charlie Chops, we did some measuring, it's a lot too wide. We need a tread width of about 40", the Volvo is about 53" We discussed narrowing it, but to get it to where we need to be, the lower control arms, along with the spring pockets will have to be extensively modified. The up side, the spindles are useable on a straight axle, and so is the steering box. It has new calipers, brake hoses, and shocks on it, and we have the steering box too. So at this point, we are considering making a straight axle using those parts.
We did not get any thing done on the rear end, more on that later.
All in all a good day.
Socket is in FRONT of the left tool box (wasn't sure where it went and wanted you to see it).
13" should be fine, we'll just fish plate it from inside and drill both ends of both pieces for plug welds.
5 on 5" (El Dorado/Toronado) Most likely will need 4 or 5. The Buick rear is a bit wide but then we can just rotate and maybe even 1 spare. CL Pittsburg has a set of 5 for $150 if anyone is over there and wants to do some shopping for me!
When's the next build day?!

Some of the Volvo front discs can have the inner bearings changed to early Ford bearings so they can be usedon Ford spindles. That might make it so we can install them on the Model A spindles and use them on that Midget front axel we have collected. Because (as near as I can find out) the Volvo spindles used kingpins it might be fairly easy to make an axel for the situation. GPster
