I have bought several motor homes for the engine and transmission. The most I paid for one was $800 with 17000 miles. It had a 454. I've also picked up a couple 351 engines and C6 transmissions the same way. There is seldom anything serious wrong with them mechanically. Even if the body is rotted away the engine is still protected. Sometimes if the appliances are good you can sell them to get your money back.

Too many extra parts to deal with on a motorhome for just a power train.  If using the chassis too, then its a different situation.

I bought a camperized chev van once . 30000miles . 350/t350 plucked out as well as a set of cragar 5 spokes . Gave the 3 way fridge to a friend for his horse trailer /camper reno and still have the teardrop port hole windows . Not bad for $100 :D
