Rodder's Roundtable / Essex pickup
January 13, 2015, 04:56:58 PM
Just out of curiosity, did I miss out on the Essex pickup build?  I'm one to talk, 36 years and my T isn't finished yet. You know how life and love gets in ones way.    I have two Essex sedans and I am interested in this build.

Rodder's Roundtable / something for the gearheads.
April 27, 2013, 12:24:58 AM
I've been working   helping install some new power lines and this machine called a "spider hoe" showed up. It's designed for steep slope excavation. I can winch itself up the mountain side or just climb it's way up. It's built in Switzerland.
It's funny what a guy will do to get money for his hobby.

Rodder's Roundtable / Sign of the times
March 05, 2013, 09:53:37 PM
I know most of you are really rich  , but for the average guys here this is a bit of yesterday for me to have one of these around.
I get about a liter every five or so oil changes.

At least it keeps the oil can full. Made from gutter down pipe and old oil jug.

Rodder's Roundtable / Differential width guidelines
October 20, 2011, 12:28:52 AM
Just thought I'd put this out there and see what comes of it,,,,,,,,,,,
Is there a rule of thumb used to choose the correct width of differential housing for your project? Is there a basic clearance between backing plate and frame/body that is most desirable? Is it best to get your wheels and tires before hand to determine clearances?
I got a feeling it's a "that otta work" kind of choice but I was wondering if the "builders" out there use some sort of guidelines.

I know this has been kicked around before BUT,,,,,,,,,,, What is the most practical cost efficient compressed air system a guy can install in his shop.  Steel? Plastic? Copper? I know some folks have used the pipe used in infloor heating with great success. Ideas, comments?

Rodder's Roundtable / Bearings in the chev 4.3L V6
August 26, 2010, 03:25:52 AM
In the next day or so I'll be tearing down a V6 in my 89 van. :x  Is there  an update to the bearings that will give me more service than the stock ones I'm replacing now? What causes the bearings in these motors to fail? :?   The engine code is "Z". Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.  The van is 21 yrs old but it only has 150,000K on it. Any performance tips for it other than replacing the motor with a 350?

Rodder's Roundtable / something abit different
June 08, 2010, 05:52:12 PM
I have this 89 Mazda PU. Just a runner,,,, anyways it was using about a 1/2" of brake fluid about every three months or so out of the reservoir :? . Well it's a daily driver and abit of a beater  . You all know the type.  Anyways I had this annoying miss that would happen for about a minute then clean up , sometimes once aday some times once a week. Never could get it to miss near the shop. :x
My brake master started to weep abit so I replaced it.   It has been amonth now and the @#$%^&* thing hasn't missed abeat  . I have heard of it before but very rarely, where a vacuum booster will be sucking brake fluid.  Looks like that was my problem in the first place but it never consumned enough fluid to "alert" me to it. :roll  I'm sure you fellows have run across this before. Just something i thought might go into the old memory bank.

This might seem to be a stupid question but    ,,,,,,,,,,,, I'm finishing my T pickup roadster and I would like to change my differential to something a bit newer so I could easily get parts for it in years to come,,,,,,,,,,,  What would you Pro-rod builders suggest for a centered, newer style rearend for my T bucket?
Thanks for any and all suggestions

I have a 1947 CJ2A and I have installed a 2300cc Ford engine in it. :D  Beacuse of space issues I had to put in an electric fan. 8)  I have installed the fan censor in the heater hose circuit which has been looped. :?  There is only one water jacket port which is used for the temp. guage. I have read in other postings that the censor could go into the bottom tank of the rad. Do you fellas think this location will work or should I install a fitting into the bottom tank?

Rodder's Roundtable / Shop layout ideas
November 24, 2009, 04:43:04 PM
I am finishing a new shop 30X60. It's divided into three 20X30 bays. Does anyone have any good ideas about bench/work space layout that will help me avoid the old "damm I wish I hadn't put that there" thing.
