Rodder's Roundtable / Chrome plating
June 27, 2015, 05:05:57 PM
Its been a while since I've had any chrome plating done but now I'm looking for a good place in the Great Lakes area. Someone suggested B and R Custom Chrome. Does anyone know these guys?

A friend of mine is building a 55 1st generation GMC truck and is looking for  gauges. He wants a gauge set that looks close to original and electric. Any ideas who might have something.

Rodder's Roundtable / Mechanical temp gauge problem
October 28, 2013, 01:56:08 PM
So I did something I have never done before. I bought a set of cheap mechanical gauges for my 327. The temperature gauge works just fine when cruising around town but when I hit the highway the gauge jumps to 225 and then down to 210 (when the thermostat opens) even though the engine is actually about 185 when checked with a heat gun. I don't think their is any fix short of replacing it with quality gauge but I wonder if anyone else has experienced this?

Rodder's Roundtable / Powerglide cold shifting issue
September 02, 2013, 05:50:12 PM
I just picked up a car with a 327 and a power glide trans. I've noticed that the trans up shifts quite a bit later when the car first starts up in the morning. After it warms up it shifts where you would expect it to. The car wasn't driven much during the last six years and now I'm driving it every day. I'm told the seals may have hardened and it will only get worse. What do you guys think.

I bought a new Auto Loc unit from Summit to replace one that failed. The old one grounded through the housing/mounting bracket so I thought the new one would to. It has two hot/power leads coming (one for in and one for out) but the housing isn't ground. I'm not sure if it's a defective unit or I'm missing something. Summit's tech line didn't know and Auto Loc will not return my calls or emails. Can anybody help me with this. Thanks,

Rodder's Roundtable / Power trunk motors
April 23, 2013, 05:15:46 PM
The Auto Loc linear actuator that opens and closes my trunk lid just died and before I just replace it with another Auto Loc brand I'm wondering whay other brands are out there. Do you guys know of any?

Rodder's Roundtable / Rocker switch supplier
April 05, 2013, 03:54:50 PM
The rocker switch for the trunk lift motor died and I'm trying to find a replacement that has the same blade configuration so I don't have to change the wire harness connector. The one that died is an ERGI brand switch (#4920 10 457). I Googled it and only found an off-shore supplier.  Any help would be appreciated.

The guy I bought my roadster from used Mobil 1 synthetic. I just changed it so I'm ready for the summer driving. My question is do I need to change it again next next fall before I store it (like I used to do with conventional oil) or should I change it again before I put it away for the winter? What do you guys do with cars that use synthetic oil?

I want to replace the lenses in my 39 Ford taillights. Simple job right. As I remember you just take the screw out of the bottom of the metal trim rim, gently pull it out and up and the trim ring comes right off. Well they won't budge. What am I doing wrong? Over the years I've had a bunch of these apart with no problem. I know I'm old but this is ridiculous.

Rodder's Roundtable / Wheel/tire options
January 29, 2012, 01:17:04 PM

Members Rides / My new roadster
June 12, 2011, 09:13:19 AM
This is my latest ride. It's my fourth 32 and my second roadster but my first hiboy roadster. It's a buyer's market right now so you can get a realy nice car at a reasonable price. I've only had it a couple of weeks but so far I'm really happy with it.

Do any of you guys know anything about this roadster? It's from the Auburn/Fort Wayne IN area and was built by a shop in Fort Wayne.

Guys,
Who makes 15" and 16" bare gennie wheels with a single bolt patten? I may end up running them with out caps and don't want the extra holes showing. Thanks.

Does anyone have any experience with Kilbourne 32 roadster bodies. I bought one of their 32 5W many years ago and was really happy with it. Now I'm thinking of buying one of their roadster bodies. They seem like a good deal for the money. What do you think?

I'm looking for some 15" blackwall radials that have somewhat of a bias ply look. I see Coker now has a Vredestein Sprint Classic brand as well as some Firestone and Michelin models. Do you guys have experience with the Vredestein brand? I've never heard of them or seen them on a car. What do you recommend. Thanks.

Guys,
While touching up my exhaust manifold I got a few drops of the Eastwood exhaust manifold paint on my frame rail. The frame rail is painted with Omni single stage enamel.  Any suggestions on how to remove them without messing up the paint? Thanks.

Rodder's Roundtable / Front disc brake question
May 03, 2011, 07:36:32 AM
Guys ... I don't have much experience with front disc brakes brakes on a hiboy. Take a look at the disc brakes/14" wire wheel combo in the picture. To me they don't look tucked in under the wire wheel very much. I guess my question is what can be done to change the look? Would, say a 15" steel wheel with a different back spacing improve the look? Or can you get wire wheels with different offsets to tuck the brake assembly inside the wheel more. What do you think?           [/img]

Rodder's Roundtable / 32 Ford glass roadster bodies
September 20, 2009, 02:11:57 PM
Guys,
I'm looking for a reasonably priced 32 glass roadster body to put on a chassis I already have built. I'm in Michigan and would like  to get something in the Great Lakes area. I see Cyclone bodies on Ebay and know Downs and Kilborne are around. Is there anyone else around that I should consider? Thanks.

Rodder's Roundtable / Wheel width vs tire size
October 03, 2008, 06:24:36 PM
What is a good rule of thumb to use in determing wheel width for different size tites. Example: 750R16 tire. The tread is 6.40" and the cross section is 8.00". I would think a 7" or 8" is the way to go. What do you guys think. Also are there any negatives to going with a 5 x 5 1/2" bolt pattern. The only new front Ford hub for drum brakes I can find (Speedway has it) is the 5 X 5 1/2". There seem to be plenty of wheels with that pattern. Is there a reason I should stay away from it??

Rodder's Roundtable / 32 ride height question
September 28, 2008, 08:45:10 AM
I read a lot about positioning the rear tire properly in the rear tire well on highboy hot rods. I'm curious what options you have (short of modifing the crossmember) to adjust the rear ride (body) height on a stock 32 frame. What can you do? Take leaves out of the spring or change the lenght of the shackles? What else??

Rodder's Roundtable / 39 Ford rear end conversion
September 22, 2008, 09:48:20 AM
I'm looking to put a Chassis Engineering rear end system in a 39. Has anyone used this stuff and is this the best approach? They say a 56" rear end (68-74 Nova, 67-69 Camaro/Firebird (multi-leaf) and 57-59 Ford 9" and all Granada 8") is needed . Are these still around (I'm in Michigan) Thanks.

Rodder's Roundtable / brake pedal question
September 05, 2008, 08:54:53 PM
I'm going to put hydraulic brakes on a 38 Ford. I'm planning on a disc/drum set up. My question is what is the best brake pedal/master cylinder set up to go with? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
