Rodder's Roundtable / Re: Electric vehicles

Tesla had a plan to replace the complete battery pack in under 5 minutes but it must not have worked out. Grant the 2013 volt was old tech but it proved a lot of faults with electric cars. I will not be be buying another anytime soon.

I had a 2013 volt. The gas engine made it usable. The battery in the the winter and in the hills was less the 50% of the miles in the summer. 4 hour charge time for 38 miles with the 220 volt charger. 11 hrs with a 110 volt charger. Granted the new cars are better but what they claim on mileage and charge time may not be what they seem. For those of us who drive long distant, we might not be happy with the time it may take. If you don't drive them like they are a baby, your range will be cut surprisingly short. I sold the Volt right at 100,000 miles. Batteries were starting to degrade. Also dangerous on ice. Let off the throttle and it go into regen. Front tires lock up get like slamming on the breaks. We had it 7 years. Went back to gas.

My guess is there won't be any in the under $60,000 range.

Anyone go this year? Just saw that the 57 won. Not my pick from pictures and style. Sure it was better in person.

Merry Christmas a day late but Happy New Year a little early.

I've been wondering if you can heat the coil at a little  time and let it settle down?  Lets say heat an inch or 2 of the coil and put a block or jack to limit the drop.

I think those will settle about an inch. I used those on the coupe. I cut them before they settled and ended up to low. If you have the front aligned now it may drop a little more.

The quick charge only get you half a charge in 20 minutes. Tesla's range is about 240 miles. No gas back up. you would need to plan your trips. The 200 mile range would drop quick if you drive like an idiot. I thought you could charge for free at the recharge station. You pay extra up front. I have a Volt and would never charge if I had to pay at a station. Plus it would take 4 plus hours. I do like the Volt but its expensive. Its just a car for me not a way of life like a lot of Volt owners.

Transmission I bought to replace my PG in the Corvair , has a shaft sticking out the front of the case and a chunk out of the bell housing. Might not be a good choice to use....

The other car is a 65 comet. Not in good shape so I call it yard art. There is a 65 corvair corsa next to it. I took the transmission and linkages out of it. Also the corsa dash. It is in bad shape also. Doors dag about 3 inches. It has a telescopic steering column. That alone should be worth more than what I paid for the car.

Can't seem to grasp this posting. I put it on iTube but still can get it to this site. I'm gone to try again though. I feel like Joe trying to get his motor started.
