this test...

save the image and print a few copies for your shop walls..

and a decent set of your own test leads..  https://i.imgur.com/XlTLPVE.jpg

this set had 7 foot long wires.. my current set has a 20 foot long wire and a 10 foot long wire.. so i can clip onto batteries in the trunk and still work under the hood.

why all the fuses during test 5.. look at this image..

https://i.imgur.com/GRnJxnL.jpg

notice the fuses have different voltage drops to them..

look at the corrosion where the buss bars are pinched by the stud.. https://i.imgur.com/2zmT97p.jpg

and https://i.imgur.com/sd2ZCk8.jpg

how many of you have had 98 S10 pickups that when you turned on the headlights the gauges changed ... turn the headlights off and they go back to where they were before..

see the stud on the left.. https://i.imgur.com/Qhau8dS.jpg    the stud is connected to the backing plate where the battery cable hooks on the other corner. but the tab around the stud was never fastened down with a nut..

please spend the extra 50 cents and put a flange nut on it.. https://i.imgur.com/C5C8YZs.jpg

you guys wanted a tool.. this one will work on any car or truck with a charging system.  all the way up to your brand new cars and trucks.

99 up GMs use modular fuse boxes now.. look at the IGN B fuse wire out of the fuse box to the ignition switch on this 2004 .. https://i.imgur.com/zHvDvIh.jpg

look at the wire burned.. https://i.imgur.com/qIUDN9x.jpg  thick red one..

look how melted pin B 12 is.. https://i.imgur.com/S2tfTse.jpg

yep.. found with a voltage drop test to the ignition switch wiring ..   https://i.imgur.com/SRiE1kT.jpg and https://i.imgur.com/MeOQq1s.jpg

ford used the STATOR voltage STA on the alternator or S on the regulator to supply current to the electric choke thermostat..

the stator has current only when the alternator is charging.. and it will have almost exactly half of the alternator output but in AC volts not DC..

and this will NOT effect charging voltage at all..

the voltage regulator uses the Stator waveform as a tachometer signal to keep the field output from the regulator at the same duty cycle to control the rotor windings to keep the charging system from surging when you rev up the engine..

the Field output from the regulator does not just pulse Positive voltage to the spinning rotor winding.. it pulses Positive to increase the rotor field strength..  and it pulses Negative to dampen the rotor field strength..  perhaps 3 times per alternator revolution.

slightly off thread.. but everybody should have printed copies of this test.. https://i.imgur.com/kviX0VQ.jpg

i assembled that almost 20 years ago. i have reduced my alternator failures to almost zero.  by reducing voltage drops.. i find that even computerized cars work better..

just an update...

booster and master installed.. https://i.imgur.com/8EHQypb.jpg

a little offsetting of the mounting hole.. https://i.imgur.com/o7zDDRk.jpg

Quote from: "enjenjo"Okay the number that NAPA came up with is P2040. Application is 68 to 72 Buick Skylark with manual brakes among many others. No guarantee it will work for you, but it worked for me.

thank you.. i will pass that along to him..    he did find a company that creates a tapered spacer block to get the nose of the master upward..

Quote from: "enjenjo"I used a S10 master cylinder on the last Mustang I did. It is about 1 1/2" shorter and bolts right up. It's the same bore. If you want I can look up the part number.

that would be great..  thanks.

i have not seen a decent brand to replace the way to easy to trip 6 ton versions i have..

i think i am going to reshape the ratchet teeth and pawl with my angle grinder..

https://i.imgur.com/7DhICTA.jpg

they did work well with the weight on them.  the wooden versions were tipped up just for safety to level the car.. they were laid on their sides to allow the floor jack to be removed and keep the back of the frame off the floor..

not mine.. not a fiero.

a friend is building a 69 mustang..   already did the 429 BOSS shock towers..  got the motor in. part way thru a header build..

but the Brake master cylinder clearance is giving him issues..

you can see the issue here..

some images of the project here..

and .. yes. aluminum heads and another large aluminum piece the heads bolt to.. not shown.  yet..

and i have been OK..

AZ Duralast Relay 19349 is less than 15 bucks.. this is a 70A 12 volt relay..

Pin 30 and 87 terminals use 3/8 push on connectors so you can easily use 10 gauge wire

where the 85 and 86 pins use regular size .250" terminals..

its just a thought..

contact 3 companies.

 https://wellsve.com/contact-us.html

 http://www.walkerproducts.com/about-us/contact-us/

https://douglaselectrical.com/products/studseal

Motor power terminal feed throughs with NPT or SAE studs work in compressors ranging in size from fractional horsepower to high-tonnage.

https://douglaselectrical.com/brochures/dec_stud_seal_catalog.pdf

both have the ability with a sample and some blue prints to turn those out.

i have dealt with walker products in the past.. that would not be very far out of what they already make..

there are several more in the right sidebar..

was over watching a friend with his countach.. put a new clutch master cylinder on it.  the replacement was totally wrong.   wrong bore size.. push rod too short by about 3/8"  would just barely move the clutch lever..

so rolled the car out.. to await a flat bed to move it from one of his houses to another..

AAA called as usual..  then they called back and they refused. as the value of the car exceeded the insurance the contract AAA tow companies had..   i wonder what the heck happened to spook them.. did they get accused of damaging an exotic..

he just drove it to the other home garage in first gear. got out of the car with the biggest smile on his face.. he did not know you could do that. or that he could do that.

have you guys ever had a weird experience like that.

Metal locking 7/16-20 lock nuts..

buy extras.. only adjust twice..  then replace.

that number should be available thru almost any parts store..

there is a kit of 16 available thru summit also.

just thoughts..  i hate poly locks..  they work great until somebody puts them on upside down and they fall off at tommys on roscoe in van nuys at 2 am on sat morning..
