just thought a few of you might be interested..

i really  liked the mention of copy without engineering the products..

a bunch of years ago.. a VP of chrysler was on vacation in china.. he kept seeing jeep cherokees. but jeep did not sell them in china..  and they did not look right.  he actually found the owner of one.. ask where he got it.. a dealer nearby.. that lead to an entire manufacturing plant turning out jeep cherokees ..   when the VP quizzed them as to why copy..
the answer was imitation is the most sincere form of flattery,  right..

and to go the other way   https://www.enginebuildermag.com/2019/06/eotw-air-cooled-flat-six-twin-plug-3-4l-porsche-911-engine/

The Chinese are quite proud of their imitations. Enough so they have both counterfeits that are meant to be very convincing and counterfeits which are quite blatant. My younger son teaches in China. One day in a mall he found a table stacked high with "Chick Tyler" sneakers. They reminded him very much of a more familiar brand name. https://c.static-nike.com/a/images/t_PDP_1280_v1/f_auto/toqshuuheqdl3ljzobnc/converse-chuck-taylor-all-star-high-top-unisex-shoe-xX439O.jpg

Interesting read on the manufacturing.

Also: there was an article on hiring employees for engine machine shops. The problems and situations discussed there are something I can understand.

We have difficulty  finding employees that can work on the older rear wheel drive domestic transmissions we build. The young guys have no experience with older stuff.  The older transmission builders have forgotten how to work on the olde stuff and can not seem to re- adapt
