Rodder's Roundtable / Wanted: DRY SUMP SYSTEM
May 05, 2012, 05:57:02 PM
I am looking for a dry sump system for the 974 Studebaker. We are blowing a lot of oil out with the boost it is making.  If any one has one or knows someone who does. Please get a hold of me.

Thank you,

I entered the ECTA standing start mile run and was excepted.  The race will be April 27, 28 2012.   Check  http://ecta-lsr.com/     for more details.
This is the event they were running at Maxton,NC but now it is at Wilmington, OH.  Youall come on to the MILE.  This is the "Hot Rod Magazine Top Speed Challenge".

We burn't a hole in a piston and some valve damage our last trip to the Texas Mile.  we are in the process of getting the machine work done and getting all the parts gathered up to fix it.  We are putting a bigger fuel pump and bigger lines on.  A bigger fuel filter also.  This should take care of the lean condition. Were hoping for some good numbers this race.

 Thank You,

A friend has put a 454 in a 74 that has been a diesel engine. The fuel pump has 3 places for hoses. The fuel inlet , the outlet to the carb and a smaller out let that leakes fuel when the engine is running.  Can we plug this line off and not cause any problems?  I ran this engine on the run in stand and it worked fine. We now have a problem of not wanting to idle.  I didn't know if this was part of the idle problem.

Thank you

Rodder's Roundtable / 974 and the Texas Mile
April 11, 2011, 11:28:43 AM
Well,  I won't be taking the 974 Studebaker to Bonneville any time soon. So I am setting it up to run the mile tracks.  I took all the weight that had been added through the years. It ended up weighing around 5700 lbs.It now is around 3,300 lbs.  I will make a rear end  and tranny gear change.

I think I got regestered for the Texas Mile this morning. It is for the Memorial week end race in southern Texas.   http://www.texasmile.net/    Getting regestered on line is like trying to get rooms at Windover. Well maybe not that bad. OK no where that bad. IT WAS EASY.

I have been setting the 974 Studebaker up for the last month for this and the MAxton Mile in South Carolina. Stopping will be a concern. I have mounted two chutes on back and beefing up the brakes.

Rodder's Roundtable / Att: Engine builders
December 24, 2010, 07:02:25 PM
I am in the middle of building a Chevy 409 engine. Our talk went to covering the inside of the block with Rustolem or some other coating.  I have  used Rustolem in the past with no problems but was wondering if any one has used POR-15on the inside of a block?

A friend bought a 37 Ford Convertable from an estate. It is a real nice car. Trick from one end to the other.  I took the radiator out for him since it had a leak. It has been my experance that it is best to send one back to the manfature for repairs. It is painted nice but I believe it is aluminum because it is so light.   I need help to ID it so we can do that. There isn't a name on it.  Or what would be the other options?
I'll have Wsjunk post some pics.

Rodder's Roundtable / Help with heads set up
April 15, 2008, 11:32:29 PM
I'am setting the heads up this year on the Bonneville car. What I am working on is the spring pressures. The valves have been ground and the valve stems are set at the same hight. The springs need to be shimmed to get the pressures that are needed. QUESTION: Is there a problem with the bottom of the spring being above the spring pocket in the head???
With shims under springs and above the spring pocket there is a little room for side movement. IS this normal or is this a problem??
