G.A.A.S. is the Great American Auto Scene. I do a segment as part of Speed Scene Live every Tuesday night at 6:PM PST. The show is based on racing, but I usually do Hot Rodding, table top racing or people that help shape our sport and hobby.

From time to time I may need a photo of a representative car or truck. I'd like to use cars from this site and it's members. I will ask first.

For those old timers, I held the first RRT Pinewood Derby race and BBQ during the L.A. Roadster show years ago. I'm not new here, just not as active as I was once.

Got any Questions for me, just ask. I want to promote the benefits and people of this site.

All you California guys gotta let your state reps know your feelings about crushing cars. The state is at it again. We need to let 'em know they can't get our cars.

Since most of our cars do not have smog crap on them they will show up as a gross polluter.

ARB staff will hold a second workshop to discuss updates to ARB's
voluntary accelerated vehicle retirement (VAVR) regulations at
the following time and place:

June 29, 2006
1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
California Air Resources Board
Monitoring and Laboratory Division
Conference Room
1927 13th Street (13th and T)
Sacramento, California 95814

The workshop notice and agenda are posted on the ARB's VAVR web
page at:  http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/avrp/MSC06-09.pdf

Regulatory changes will primarily focus on incorporating the use
of remote sensing devises (RSD) as an additional means of
identifying higher emitting vehicles as possible candidates for
voluntary retirement.  At the workshop, ARB staff will present
regulatory concepts and address questions raised at the first
workshop.  ARB staff plans to post materials for the workshop on
its web site on or about June 19, 2006.  Another list serve
notice will be sent out when the materials have been posted.

For more information, contact Andrew Panson at
apanson@arb.ca.gov or (916) 323-2881 or Tom Roemer at
troemer@arb.ca.gov or (916) 322-1520.

Go to the home page. Click on the '71 Maverick under "Domestic Cars". Here is where you get to vote. Then under "Vintage Cars"  the number 2 car is my coupe, Please vote here too. To find Scott's Model A, go to the left of the Home page and enter 29 ford in the "KeyWord" box and search. You'll see Scott begind the wheel, err um windshield frame (no wheels at all yet) Please vote here as well.

Rodder's Roundtable / MPG How-To
September 05, 2005, 12:11:30 PM
Ok, most of us didn't give a ratz azz wot kinda fuel mileage we got when we built our cars, but at $3.+ a gallon for the regular stuff maybe itz time we started looking at that. Forget the late model stuff as Itz our rodz I wanna focus on here.

I'll start with memories of gas lines in the '70's. Hotrod mag did a story on getting MPG from a performance car. Ok, it was a new Z28, but they did get that sucker up 5 or so MPG.

First were headers followed by a Q-jet carb for the smaller primaries, Isky Mile or more cam and a new (at the time) Edelbrock SP2P intake. They took a 15-16 mpg car and brought it up to 20+.

On my '48 Plymouth coupe I have a performer intake a holley 600 cfm carb on my car, but MPG SUCKS (12-15mpg hiway). I'm running a 305/350 Chebby. Cruzes at 70 MPH @ 2100 RPM. With a Q-Jet and stock intake I got almost 20 MPG with 2:78 rear gears. I just found an SP2P for $20 at a swap meet and will start looking for a smaller carb. I'm adding an MSD as well just to make sure the ign. is doing it's best. The goal is 20+ mpg.

So what are you gonna do or what else can we do?

Rodder's Roundtable / Sacraficial T-Stat Housing
September 05, 2005, 11:54:04 AM
Ok guys here is a problem that has been with my '48 Plymouth since I first put it together. It Eats aluminum!

When I ran a Flat head with a Edmunds head it was eaten away at the water passages. Lots a copper seal and new head gasket every two years and I'm back on the road.

I switched to a SBC V8 and every year  or so I replace the T-stat housing. Quick fix is go to a cast iron part, but then I fear the intake will get eaten. I tried a sacrificial anode cap, but the sucker is still good after 2 years and another water neck bites the dust.

I have three grounds on the engine. Two to the frame and one to the firewall. Got antifreeze in the cooling system and even added prolong after their rep said it cools the engine and neutralizes the system against electrolysis. It's no problem changing the water necks, but I just got back from HAN with it and all I needed was this sucker to have gone south on the trip.

Any ideas how to stop the thirst for alloy engine parts?

Rodder's Roundtable / ENOS Wiring problem
February 02, 2005, 12:23:54 PM
Ok, I got tired of the light show under my dash and now there is a fresh ENOS wiring harness in the car. Everything works, but now the amp gauge will not show discharge only charge. I have tried with key on and key off, but even pulling out the head light switch will not cause a discharge to show on the gauge. Anyone got any Ideas on this? I'm using the stock gauges, ign switch.

The guy that installed it said he spoke to the ENOS guys and they said nothing is wrong. I kinda disagree.

Just tried to find a web address or phone number for ENOS but couldn't.

:?: I've got a '55 265 and my son wants to use it in his "A" project. What auto trans will fit this engine beside a cast iron 'glide :?:
