Rodder's Roundtable / Tool auction
June 20, 2004, 10:42:17 AM
We went to a tool auction yesterday, in Montpeiler Ohio. Big auction, three lines going most of the day. Lots of Clarke tools and tool boxes, wire welders, sand blasers, drill presses, compressors, plus a bunch of industrial tools, compressors, conveyors, shears, brakes, welders. Outside there were trucks, cars, boats, manlifts, fork lifts, tugs, motor homes, trailers, motorcycles, ATV, mopeds, and more. Also several thousand die cast and plastic models, RC cars and parts, motorcycle parts, auto parts, twin post hoist, tire machines, manuals, and shop tools. Tanning beds, hair dryers, chairs, office furniture, and much, much more.

I bought seven tool boxes, damaged, for $30 total, four base cabinets, and three top boxes. I sacrificed one base cabinet for parts, and had all three top boxes and two of the base cabinets repaired last night, the other base is a easy fix, some bent drawers. Also a set of Mitchell manuals from 77 to 92 for $10, the rest of the parts for the BBQ grille for $5 four 1/2" cordless hammer drills for $27.50, some used tools for $2, and some model cars.

Frank III bought motorcycle tires and rims, computer parts, and some other stuff.

I didn't buy, but the wire welders sold for $100 each, $175 with a cart and helmet. Floor type drill presses went for $85, bench top drilll presses for $35. 2 hp compressors for $25 each, 5 HP for $110. Sand blasters for $35, blasting cabinets for $40.

There was some stuff that got silly, a Miller 250 wire welder sold for $2400, retail is $1800, a 76 Harley dresser for $13,000, 90 Honda Accord went for $5600, 85 Toronado for $3500, RC cars went for $250 each.

We had a fun day.

I have some Mitchel parts and labor guides, 1990, and 1992, and some aftermarket body parts catalogs, free to whoever wants them, postage only.

I am making a piece of trim, from billet aluminum, when done it has to be bent to fit the curve of a hood, a large radius, 2 to 3 ft.

The trim is thicker and wider at the front, about 1 1/2" wide, and nearly an inch thick, and it's about 1/2" square at the rear. The piece needs most of the bend at the front, not much at the rear.

Any suggestions?

Rodder's Roundtable / Auction
May 09, 2004, 06:29:43 PM
I discovered that friend of mine passed away last october, while at the show in Coldwater yesterday. His name was Jerry Heap, I am sure many of you knew him, he was a vendor at many shows thoughout the midwest, selling western sheet metal parts, primarily pickup parts.

I talked to his partners, and they are having an auction, aug 28 in Edgerton Ohio. Everything goes, several warehouses full of parts. Primarily sheet metal, but many other parts too. Also Larry Hartman, one of his partners, is selling out his tool store at the same venue. Sounds like there will be a lot of stuff to sell. I'll post a link when I can get it, but it sounds like it will be worth going to.

Rodder's Roundtable / Grille questions
May 04, 2004, 12:36:11 AM
On this grille we are building for the trailer, I picked up some burners on Ebay, and have to rig up some control valves. How critical is matching the valve flow to the burner? The valves I have are on a burner about the same size, but I don't want to use them if I am building a bomb.

Rodder's Roundtable / BBQ build day
March 28, 2004, 10:45:06 PM
We are going to do the build april 17th. I would like to know how many people are going to be here, so let me know if you are coming. If you need directions, shoot me a pm or Email, and I'll get them out to you. If you need a motel, there is a super 8 at Toledo Express Airport, about 3 miles away. We will burn some meat on my grille that day just for practice. We can eat inside the shop in case of rain. Everyone that wants to come is welcome, even if you just want to tell us what we are doing wrong. Just remember we have pointy tools and fire.

Rodder's Roundtable / Hard to believe
February 26, 2004, 01:28:13 AM
I was working on a convertor dolley tonight, they are used to connect two trailers together for the doubles you see on the interstates. This one is 22 years old, and has 2,871,000 miles on it, that is more  than 5 round trips to the moon. It is on it's second frame, second axle, original 5th wheel, 4th coupler eye, and has gone through more than 100 tires. The brakes have been replaced 23 times, it has been inspected and greased 75 times. The first time I worked on it I was 35 years old, Reagan was president, Fatcat was in junior high, and most cars were still rear wheel drive.

Rodder's Roundtable / RRT Barbeque trailer
February 15, 2004, 11:35:59 PM
Several of us have been discussing building a trailer to use for our barbeques at the car shows. The thinking so far is something small that can be towed behind most cars. I have an axle, and material for a frame, the axle bolt pattern is 4 1/2"

I am thinking gas grille because it takes less time to start and stop it, we can get burners and build the grille, a table for serving, and storage bins of some kind, and a cooler.

The idea so far is a get together here, and a trailer building party.

Any ideas, suggestions, parts are welcome.

Rodder's Roundtable / Mind Boggling 2
February 15, 2004, 07:42:25 PM
QuoteOf course my first post after the test was called "Mind Bogglin" where I asked what profession everyone was in. The response was overwhelming to say the least...If that was asked now it would certainly be the longest post in history I think:-)...there's a lot more guys and gals here now.

Lets do it.

I am a heavy truck mechanic, for the next 7 months, and then I will be living a life of leisure, I retire in September. I plan on fooling with hot rods full time then. Hard to believe I have been here almost 7 years.

Well, we weren't totally ready to do this yet, but some problems are forcing this change. Some of you are already familiar with this software, it is real easy to use, and offers advantages over the old software. go for it.
