Read about it with a pang of sadness; I liked her from the first time I saw her on Extreme Off-Road.
She was one of a kind.

Quote from: "Crosley"It is a good day.  The internet is an amazing thing..

I mentioned, the Heat Pump on my shop was only heating, not cooling the shop. After much reading and some YouTube videos... I know my thermostat took a dump.

Tonite I watched a video on how to bypass the t-stat and place my Heat pump into the cooling mode. I wired nutted 4 wires together and the  Heat Pump works great, cools the shop as usual.

So, now I need to buy a thermostat for this old York unit.

And for the record:  it was 92*F in the shop this evening.

We had the same situation with our unit for years. Since I am limited to ground level, I would call the home warranty folks twice a year, late spring, and late fall, to get the danged thing to do what it is supposed to do. I complained that all of the relays and motors they replaced could have paid for a completely new unit, but, no, they just kept patching the band aids. Finally, this past April, the HW outfit sent a different contractor out: the guy went up on the roof for a long time, came back down with a smirk on his face, tested the thermostat, and replaced it, said that was the problem all along - it works like it is supposed to, now.

Been kind of "rough" of late, keeping a low profile, not doing much of anything except sleeping a hell of a lot and visiting the Docs.  Not complaining, though, just sayin'.

I've not been out and about much of late, but here in "sin city" the pumps are at $3.45 to $3.60 or thereabouts.

Rodder's Roundtable / Folding work table - stand
May 14, 2019, 05:20:56 PM
My Bride bought me a "WorkMate" by B&D back in the seventies when they first came on the market.  I still have it, and it has served for everything from a grinder stand to a reloading press table, and even have dropped a couple of bolts through the mounting ears of a bench vise and clamped them into the Workmate to hold it in place. It has been the basic bench for my miter saw, my bench top drill press, and I can't think of all the uses I have put it to. Even used it as a stand rebuilding transmissions.

I'm sitting here reading this thread just now, not moving at all, and the floor gave the chair a little jig-jig-jog, got my attention, and then did it again.  Looked to see if the dog was under the chair, but nope - we must have had a hurthkwake.  They are a common thing here, many a day, but they seldom are felt, even by my sensitive shaker meter.  I need to go looking at the geological survey site to see if I am hallucinating, or something.  Had us a heck of a blow and rain storm this afternoon, too, floated my curb ramp ten feet or so down the gutter, and it is not light weight; also scattered trash bins all over the neighborhood.

Quote from: "Crosley"I paid 3.10 a gallon this afternoon. At this rate:  I may need a scoot with a smaller engine than the Goldwing has.

Hah, good thinking.  How is it that "back in "the day", we scooted around on 500 or 650 Brits and thought we were hot stuff, and never even considered that we were really underpowered?  Then as we got a bit older, we stepped up to 750s, 900s, 72 inch Harleys, 1200 Beemers, and today, the main cruisers and big bikes all have 1500 to 1800 or so? Sure, they are moving a fair amount more weight, what with bigger tanks, fairings, wind deflectors, and sometimes we think the weight makers are almost necessary - but, I guess the point I am trying to make is, how did we get along back then?  My Trump, and XLCH didn't have anything but air, and I was sh***ing in tall cotton.  Just pondering the obvious.

Rodder's Roundtable / My 350 engine in my 57 Chevy

Ah, the "small block Chevy header nightmare" raises it's ugly head once again. If you are not able or comfortable with trying to modify them, seek out a good muffler/exhaust shop and pay the price.  I never found but one manufacturer that ever fit without some tube flattening on the spark plug side of most of the tubes.  The only ones I ever had that fit well were Thorley Tri-Ys on my small blocks. I bought a set of Crower headers once, and the fit was so bad that I called them - they were in the City of Industry - and trailered the truck up to the shop at their plant.  The guy in their development shop took them off and beat on them for a while, put them back on, and they had enough clearance to get to the plugs.  They gave me my money back, and thanked me for bringing the problem to their attention; I don't know if they changed their patterns or not, though - they are long gone, now.  As an aside, those headers were still on the truck and in reasonably good shape for their age when I sold it; they were twenty years old.
