I wonder what degree the inverted flare side of my adapter is? There is nothing in the specs that says. They are supposed to fit the power steering pump on an LS to enable you to use the power steering hoses in an earlier model GM application. I just guessed that they just had standard inverted flare ends. I've seen flare seals the days I worked in refrigeration but if if there's a difference in the flare angle I don't think they'd deal with the difference. GPster

It's been a while but I read it every day. The Jeepster is basically a re-bodied a 1987 GMC S15 pick-up with the 2.5L engine. Because I set the engine further back in the frame I've had to re-work the power steering hoses. I haven't been able to control leaks at the fittings. I changed the pump to one from a '91 S10 to get a pump with the tank and fill on the pump to clean up the total package. The installation has the pressure switch in the pressure line to let the computer control the engine idle for the additional strain on the engine (?). The "T" fitting for the switch is the first component in the pump's pressure line but I've been having leaks at the 6AN 3/8" fitting at both the pump and the tee. I had a straight line made with new 6AN fittings on both ends (about 6" long)but I had leaks with it. I thought maybe there was too much vibration in the hose so I made a bracket mounted to the engine that held the hose at the point that the hose goes to metal so all of the tubing and the fitting are supported to the engine. To go one step further there is an adapter that goes from 6AN to inverted flare so I got that adapter and put an inverted flare on one end of the tube I had made and I've got leaks at the new inverted flare to adapter. I'm so frustrated with this thing that I have to ask for any ideas. Also where are you guys getting "O" rings for these 6AN fittings? I went to four parts stores yesterday and they all go to a box that has a collection of "O" rings. Two stores were out of the "O" rings of that size, one store was going to sell me a Dorman selection of "O" rings that probably only had one that might have been close enough to try. I can't believe that with power steering almost being a given, that the correct "O" ring would have a Known supply. I also can't believe that a simple inverted flare connection would leak. Let me knw if you've had problems like this and what you did to live with it. Even if it only gives me something to read. GPster

Well, my boat came in today. The new flasher came in and the lights blink on the GPS. Of course the new direction signal switch in the column has decided to return to the off position and not stay in the selected left or right position and working by myself I'm not fast enough to see if the light are blinking. Maybe my '48 Jeepster is trying to tell me that it didn't have directional signal lights. Oh Well! GPster

There's no continuity through this flasher the new flasher from Amazon so none of the lights came on.We called Amazon yesterday and today it went out in the mail and a replacement will be coming. They don't seem to have very good luck with electrical stuff. The first GPS speedometer I got from them didn't work either. Oh Well! GPster

Well, yesterday was between the 10th and the 17th of July on Amazon's calendar. I got the electronic flasher and ran out and plugged it in. Maybe it was less expensive than the competition's because it didn't work. None of the lights came on. I re-installed the flasher I had originally used and was back to the left side flashing and the right side just lit. My guess is the new flasher is no good. Oh Well! I hope the ship from the far east had more than one on it. GPster

OK, all the bulbs are the same 1157 and all the sockets are new. All the sockets are hard wired to ground and all the bulbs light. The column directional switch is new and the lights come on as selected. The right side just doesn't flash. The flasher is probably the one that came with the '87 donor wiring harness and I notice that the left side when it flashes does so at a very slow pace which might put some credibility to my original thought that it might be a problem with amp/watt in the system. So I ordered an electronic flasher from Amazon (because of Amazon Prime was cheaper and I could understand the description and instructions. It will be here before the 17th. GPster

Rodder's Roundtable / Re: 48 chevy truck

How about making a bed out of a rear cab skin and the skins off a pair of doors? From the picture that should give you enough length and if you use to just under the window openings it would give you enough height for the gas tank filler. Have you thought what you're going to do with the places in the cowl where the fenders bolted?    GPster

The Jeepster's wiring is mostly 1987 GMC S15. The steering column is out of a 1991 Chevy S10 Blazer (with a new directional switch). The Jeepster's front light sockets were changed for two filament bulbs ( 1034 1157 ). The rear light are trailer lights. My right side lights will light when That side is selected but the won't blink.  It seems that I that I remember that when the lights changed from 1034 to 1157 some older 12v cars had a similar problem and I seem to remember it had something to do with the amount of power the bulbs used effecting the flasher. I'm too lazy to go out and pull the bulbs and check them (cause they do light) with-out some other ideas, so I'm asking here for any ideas. GPster

Rodder's Roundtable / Re: Car Magazines
April 17, 2023, 12:38:17 PM
I let my car subscriptions die as they did. I di renew my Rodder's Journal on a 3 year deal probably about 3 years ago which was before their s l o w  d o w n and they still honored it when the last issue crept out but I can't find out if they're gone for good. Any information I ever got about their publishing came from Pat Gunahl's site but now that's dormant. I probably have them since issue #7 and they will probably travel the same way the last bunch of magazines did but he's getting as old as I am. GPster

My wife has been witnessing my mood changes throughout this adventure and was delighted with the latest outcome. With the latest result she wrote Amazon ready to relay this adventure and while looking for a site on their WEB she stumbled on a site to register my journey. Even though it all started with the initial purchase of the original GPS speedometer last November we were instructed to take the original speedo to the UPS store where they would package it and alert Amazon for instructions. This seemed like it was an ordinary procedure at the UPS Store. I went home and within an hour we had a refund from Amazon for the purchase price of the replacement. These outcomes have raised my mood so much that I'm not even bothered that I still have a power steering fluid leak somewhere. GPster

Well I got one that works! GPster

The first time around I didn't hook up the remote button because I could reach the button on the back of the speedometer fairly easily. With this this second try I bad provisions to mount the remote  button because what I could gather from the information I have collected it will be helpful to be able to get to the remote button to reset the odometer (rather than laying on my side reaching under the dash to press the button and turning the key and trying to see the odometer display and timing that all together) but that is good information for when I try to set this new one up to work (assuming that it will). I bought this replacement from Amazon that was being marketed under a different brand (different part of China) thinking that for $5.00 more the installation instructions might be more complete. Not so! Everything was exactly the same and no identification 0f the vender so you can't ask question about it there. Maybe this one will work. GPster

Well I "bit the bullet" and ordered a new one. I found on the site 134 comments and it seemed that 25% of the people that bought this speedometer had problems so I hope that if I tried another one I'd have a chance that it would work. I started to install it today so if doesn't work I've am still within the Amazon warrantee period. GPster

I agree. It's like a gathering of friends that meets and the topic of discussion can vary. I hope the days don't come where someone doesn't have something to say but unfortunately I can only contribute one subject an a time. GPster

The disappointment of the day. The sun is shining so I pushed the Jeepster out of the garage and turned the key on so the antenna could find a signal. Somewhere I have read that the odometer would start to count if the power was on and that counting would go on until the antenna found a signal. If it had not found a signal by the time the odometer had counted to 300 there would be an ERR on the odometer's screen. That part worked because I got the ERR which I had expected (?). Put the new antenna (that I had gotten from Ebay) on and the odometer started counting until it got to 300 and it gave me the ERR. So I know that much of the speedometer works. I turned off the key to reset the odometer (which it did) and took the Jeepster out for a drive and didn't even get a flinch on the speedometer's needle. That's disappointing in that I managed to install this thing and didn't get any wires crossed, the car starts, runs and shifts, the directional lights, high beam light and the back lights work and the installation in the dash is according to plan. Enough thinking for today. GPster
