Rodder's Roundtable / 1939 Chevy trans fitment
June 17, 2022, 09:55:45 AM
Anyone running a 4L60E in a 1939 Chevy?  I think they are the same size as a 700R4, not sure.  Wondering if the stock trans tunnel will clear the trans or if I need a larger tunnel.  Any info greatly appreciated.

Rodder's Roundtable / led shop lights
November 09, 2021, 04:44:26 PM
Does anybody have recommendations for LED shop lights?  I had 20, 4 foot long, fluorescent fixtures. Tried the Walmart LED bulbs that work in the fluorescent fixtures, but 2 have already died. Maybe in there a year.  Gonna have to brake down and spend the cash for some true LED fixtures/bulbs.
If you can point me in a good direction, I would appreciate it. Thanks

Rodder's Roundtable / 30 A pickup seat
August 01, 2021, 04:19:02 PM
Any suggestions for a seat that fits a 1930 Model A pickup?   Have a stock seat in it now and after about an hour or so sitting on it you can hardly move.  Looking for something with more support under the thighs. Too much pressure on the butt as is.  Maybe a 2nd or 3rd seat from a van or something similar.  Can't spring for one of the aftermarket seats, too much $$$.

Rodder's Roundtable / 1939 chevy dash
May 26, 2021, 03:37:45 PM
Just wondering if anyone has used the */Absolute sheet metal dash for a 1939 Chevy. It is a replacement for the original but has a flat face for gauges.  How was the installation and fit?  Thanks for any info you can give.

Rodder's Roundtable / rotisserie mount
June 06, 2020, 12:18:48 PM
Anyone had a 1939 Chevy sedan on a rotisserie?  Need to get to the bottom of mine for cleaning and coating as soon as I recover from rotator cuff surgery.    Not sure where the best rear mount position would be.  Any thoughts?  Thanks.

Rodder's Roundtable / 1995 LT1 harness
March 29, 2020, 02:28:55 PM
Anyone have any experience and/or suggestions for an engine harness for a 1995 LT1 in a 1939 Chevy?  How many O2 sensors are needed?  Getting exhaust welded on Saturday and not sure if I need 1 or 2 bungs for O2 sensors. Don't have original wiring harness or exhaust manifolds.  Thanks for any info you can give.  Stay home and stay safe.

Rodder's Roundtable / ground clearance
February 11, 2020, 07:48:42 PM
In mocking up the exhaust for the '39 Chevy there is about 6 1/4 inches clearance below the x-pipe with the engine and trans in but without the body mounted.  Is this enough or will I drag it at times?  It has a M2 front suspension and is expected to settle about an inch in the front after a few miles.  Any thoughts?

Rodder's Roundtable / muffler choice
January 31, 2020, 10:54:51 AM
I know, what sounds good to one guy is too loud or too quiet for someone else.   1939 Chevy with stock 1995 LT1  with block hugger headers, pipes all the way to rear bumper.  Looking for a low rumble at idle and "hear the radio, able to converse" quiet at cruise.  Any and all suggestions, comments and chuckles are appreciated.  By the way, it's the wife's car. If we want loud we will take my Abone pickup.  Thanks.

Rodder's Roundtable / master cylinder size
May 30, 2019, 03:50:17 PM
Planning on power brakes for the wife's '39 Chevy sedan.  GM metric calipers in the front and S10 drums in the rear.   Will a one 1" diameter master cylinder bore be sufficient or would a 1 1/8" or 7/8" be better?  Planning on a 7" single booster.  Thanks for any input you can offer.

Rodder's Roundtable / Trans tunnel room
February 06, 2019, 03:40:33 PM
Just wondering......Is much cutting on the floor in the trans tunnel area needed to put a 4L60E behind a Chevy 350 LT1 in a 1939 Chevy?   It looks like it might be close but haven't had time to measure yet.    Thanks.

Rodder's Roundtable / body weight
November 05, 2018, 10:25:21 AM
Any "guesstimates " of what the body shell of a 1939 Chevy sedan weighs?  No doors or deck lid.  Need to lift one.    Don't want to lose it once it's in the air.    Thanks for any and all input.

September 12, 2018, 09:48:21 AM

Rodder's Roundtable / 1947 Ford grille
August 06, 2018, 09:50:04 AM
My boy needs a grille for his '47 Convert.  Bob Drake, Dennis Carpenter and the other major players in the parts game are out of stock and don't know when the supplier is doing another run.  I talked to them at Louisville last weekend.  The stainless trim is available but the main sheet metal structure is not.   He found one on ebay, made in Taiwan, from a seller called Dales MFG.    Looks good in the picture but we all know about pictures!   Any one familiar with this seller?   I figure one supplier is making them all, since tooling costs are too high for such a limited demand item.    Any thoughts?  Thanks.

Rodder's Roundtable / rearend backing plates
June 25, 2018, 04:25:23 PM
Does anybody have a source for backing plates for an early nineties S-10 Blazer, 4 wheel drive,  rear drums.  All I can find locally are the ones with 2 bolt mounting and clip on wheel cylinders.   Mine are 4 bolt mounting and bolt on wheel cylinder and are a lot heavier construction.  Would like to replace with the same if possible.   Haven't had any luck online.   Thanks for any and all input you can provide.

Rodder's Roundtable / sheet metal supplier
April 29, 2018, 04:22:53 PM
Has anybody had any experience with Absolute Sheet Metal in Chino, AZ ?  Looking to purchase from them but thought I would check to see if any one had dealt with them and if the experience was good or bad.   Thanks for any input you can give.

Rodder's Roundtable / S-10 rearend
April 12, 2018, 09:18:31 AM
I have two S-10 rearends.  One with open 3:73 gears and one with posi 4:11.   Would like the 3:73 set in the posi rear.  Is there a way to tell if they are 7.5 inch or 7.65 inch without taking them out and measuring them?   Going to be running a 4L60E tranny and think the 3:73 ratio would probably be best for long distance cruising.   Will be the wife's car so probably not too worried about off the line performance.  I know these area not the strongest axles but she won't be flogging it either.

Rodder's Roundtable / rear spring shackles
March 31, 2018, 10:44:36 AM
I need rear spring shackles that are about 1 inch longer than what I can find available.   Is there a specific type of steel that should be used to make my own?  I'm not a metalurgist (sp) so not sure what to use.  Any input would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Rodder's Roundtable / Ford springs
March 24, 2018, 03:42:51 PM
Any suggestions as to where to buy a stock rear spring  for a 1947 Ford convertible.   my son is looking to get one that is stock ride height and all he can find are springs to lower the rear. Thanks for any ideas you have.

Rodder's Roundtable / 47 ford tranny
March 11, 2018, 04:28:14 PM
My son is looking at a 1947 Ford and the tranny needs some work.  It sounds like the synchronizer assembly may be wore.  I'm not familiar with these vehicles or transmissions.  Is there an easy way to remove the trans without taking the engine or rearend out?   Any and all input would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Rodder's Roundtable / insulation
June 26, 2017, 09:52:33 AM
Finally going to insulate the firewall and floor in the A pickup.  Any suggestions on which is best as far as heat and sound protection?   Hard to tell from the ads.   Daynamat, Boom mat, etc.    Probably purchasing at G.G. Columbus for installation before the trip to Louisville.   More concerned with the heat than the sound.  The wind noise and rattles and squeaks I can tolerate.  Thanks for any and all suggestions.  They are much appreciated.

Rodder's Roundtable / Goodguys Nashville
April 28, 2017, 03:56:08 PM
Thinking about going to the Goodguys show in Nashville next month.    Will be going as a spectator as going that far in a Model A pickup is just too much for the wife, and me!    Maybe fifteen years ago.    :)     Will spend an extra day or two in the area site seeing.   Any recommendations as far as lodging, places to see, etc.   We will be at the show on Saturday.   Is it worth the drive from Ohio?

Rodder's Roundtable / filler over epoxy
August 26, 2016, 10:59:06 AM
Can Evercoat Z-Grip filler be used over DP40LF epoxy primer if used in the "window" for the primer as per PPG ?    I know it is designed to go over bare metal.  I have the Z-Grip but it is 2 years old.   Is it still viable with new hardener?  I'm trying not to have to purchase new filler for just the small amount I need at this time.   Thanks to all.

What is everybody using and any recommendations?    Truck bed liner, rubberized coatings?  Can I sand or wire brush the surface or do I need to sand blast?   Any input is appreciated.

Rodder's Roundtable / brake light switch
July 22, 2016, 11:07:31 AM
I want to change my brake light switch from the hydraulic to a mechanical for a quicker response and need a switch that completes the circuit when the button is released like a dome light switch.   Was wondering if a dome light switch would handle the current for two 1157 bulbs.  Any thought?

Rodder's Roundtable / engine paint

Rodder's Roundtable / gas tanks
November 08, 2015, 05:07:24 PM

Rodder's Roundtable / axle width
September 14, 2015, 03:24:15 PM
Is the wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface distance the same on an S-10 disc brake rear end the same as a drum brake rear end?   Also would like a recommendation for a rear end for a 1939 Chevy sedan.   What are you all using?   Have an S-10 4x4 rear with drums available but would really like to go to discs.

Rodder's Roundtable / LT1 fuel questions
June 23, 2015, 10:19:49 AM
I have an LT1 from a 1995 Camaro with 88k miles.  It's been sitting for about 10 years.   Would you do a complete teardown and redo or just try to get it running as is?   It was running fine when removed from car and has been inside on a stand since then, but has not been turned over at all.  Also, what kind of fuel pressure do I need for this, and what size fuel and return lines?  Thanks for any input you can offer.   I'm new to this fuel injection stuff.

April 23, 2015, 03:58:44 PM
Has any one used the Dustless Blasting process I see in some ads.  Uses ground glass and water.  I need to strip a 39 Chevy sedan body and am considering my options.  Any comments, rants or raves are welcome!

Rodder's Roundtable / brake pedal
November 11, 2014, 05:20:37 PM
I'm planning on putting a firewall mounted brake m/c-booster in the wife's '39 Chevy sedan.    Any suggestions as to what fits and still leaves room to remove the valve cover without removing the brake setup?     Running a small block Chevy.

Rodder's Roundtable / Transmission question.
July 27, 2014, 05:05:39 PM
Have a 200-4R trans.  It seems like the converter is locking in all gears.  Idle speed is set at 800 rpm and idles nice in park and neutral.   When put in gear, reverse or drive, it wants to bog to the point of dying if I do not give it gas.   It shifts fine up thru the gears.   My question is will I damage anything if I unplug the torque converter lock up and drive it that way for a few weeks until I can take a look at it?  It has a TCI lockup kit,  installed several years ago.  Wondering if the solenoid is bad.   Thanks for any insight you can offer.

Rodder's Roundtable / Mustang II strut rod bushings
March 27, 2014, 06:31:57 PM
Which way should the cupped washers for the strut rod bushings on a Mustang 2 IFS be turned?    Looking online there doesn't seem to be any agreement as to whether they should have the cup towards the bushing or away from it.

Any thought?

Thanks for any insight you can offer.

Want to coat the bottom of the floor on the 39 Chevy with a rust preventer/convertor or something like that. It just has some surface rust that I will wire brush or sand blast. Any one used POR15, KBS, anything like these? Thanks.

Rodder's Roundtable / Primer or not?
September 03, 2013, 04:51:23 PM
Going on vacation this Friday for a few days in Gatlinburg.  When we get back I'm going to paint the chassis on the 39 Chevy.  Not looking for a Riddler type look, but want it to be presentable.  Going with PPG epoxy primer on the bare metal,  Concept single stage for the top coat.   Do I need to use a filler primer such as K36 or K38 over the epoxy?   First time painting and want to do it right.  Thanks.

Rodder's Roundtable / Chassis Engineering parts
May 17, 2013, 09:51:26 AM
Bought the wife a 1939 Chevy sedan.   Was wondering if any body has experience with Chassis Engineering bolt on front and rear suspension setups.   Do they center the wheels in the fenders?   The stock rear axle placement has the wheel about and inch and a half too far forward.   Is this corrected in the design of the rear leaf spring kit?   Looking at the bolt on front since i'm not a welder.   Like the idea of the height adjustment feature.  Any and all comments are welcome and appreciated.   Thanks.

Rodder's Roundtable / 1939 Chevy front suspension
September 13, 2012, 07:21:25 PM
Any body familiar with Chassis Engineerings bolt on Mustang II front suspension for the '37-'39 Chevy?   I'm not a welder so bolt on is attractive but have heard good things about Fatman's units.   Comments or complaints are welcome!

Rodder's Roundtable / rear disc conversion kits
July 04, 2012, 04:58:03 PM
I'm thinkng about putting discs on the rear of my abone pickup.   Was wondering if anyone had any experience or recommendations for a particular brand.   Currently has a '57 Chevy rear.  Would prefer a bolt on kit that would not increase the offset for wheel mounting surface.  Will be talking to manufacturers at Columbus Goodguys this weekend.  Just looking for any input as to what to avoid or what might be a good fit without a lot of extra work to make everything work, before talking to them.

Thanks for any and all input.

Rodder's Roundtable / Looking for a softer ride
July 16, 2010, 10:23:17 AM
I am running a 7 leaf spring on the front and the ride is really hard.  Thinking about removing a leaf or two, or three, to soften the ride . Any suggestions on how many and which ones to remove?  Not looking to lower it much, just a softer ride.

Any chance it can be done without completely removing from the vehicle?

Thanks.

Rodder's Roundtable / Early Mustang wiring
June 19, 2008, 01:42:01 PM
Howdy, Haven't posted in a while but check the forum regularly. After 12 years of widowerhood (is that a word?) I got married a couple months ago and have been trying to get her house ready to put on the market, as if it will do any good right now.

Anywhoo, I'm back to the A pickup and was wondering if anyone had, or could point me to, a wiring diagram for the steering column for an early Mustang. I'm not sure of the year, but is has the long integrated shaft. I need to find which wires go to the turn signals. The wires are cut a few inches from entering the column and consist of the following colors:

red, yellow, green (maybe teal?), light blue, white/blue, white/red, white/green, blue/yellow, blue/brown, orange/blue.

I've checked the net and haven't been able to find anything yet.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hope to have it on the road and at Columbus GG next month. The wife says forget the house and get the truck ready to cruise.  Gotta love her.  :D

Thanks again for taking the time to read this and for any help you can give.
