Title: welding axle tubes to center section on an 8.5 rear
Post by: enjenjo on August 06, 2023, 01:01:27 AM
Stick? MIG? TIG? Mild steel or stainless rod? Lets hear some opinions. In this case there is a very slow oil leak, more a seep, but no visible cracks present. Stock 350/350 owned by a woman.

I believe the center sections are cast steel rather than cast iron, so that helps. If there's a little oil leak it'll be hard to get it clean deep in the joint, maybe stick welding would be the best choice.

Tig with no preheat and only a half inch at a time with long wait between welds.

It WILL warp but in a non race thing, you can probably get away with no straightening.

Brake kleen and JB weld ! Not a race car so just stop the leak .
