Rodder's Roundtable / 36 Ford firewall fix
March 27, 2023, 08:41:39 PM
From the beginning I messed up and did not recess the firewall enough in my 36 Sedan. The problem this created was lack of room to run an adequate cooling fan. I decided to remedy that this winter. here are some photos of the progress so far...

After determining the needed set back I proceeded to remove the offending section.

We bent up a one piece insert, leveled and tacked it in.

The beads on the top slanted area were shortened in this cut so I too k the ends that were removed to reattach shorter to allow a finished look to the beads.

As it currently sits there is a little finish body work and a couple small pieces to attach at the bottom I decided were needed to fill a gap.

I have learned that if you right clik on the "quote" button and open up a new window.. the quote feature works like that.  As seen above.  Weird

How wide a distance from the support you are spacing.
What is the reason to add the spacer?
How do you propose to attach the spacer to the existing support?

I had the standard type gas shocks on my '36 Sedan. Switched to Bilsteins on all for corners. Night and day difference!

That looks good Matt! I forgot to give credit to the concept painting, It was done by a talented Sign guy Mike Casey who gifted it to me!

Dave the concept it real close. I will be running hood tops and no lakes style pipes but the colors and scallops are the colors of choice! Hopefully it will be ready late '23 or early '24!

Matt the GT is a later model Gran Prix correct? I had an 89 and it developed a coolant leak. I FINALLY traced it to s couple pin holes on top of a hard line that ran along the frame rail. Not sure if yours is plumbed the same but may be a place to look if it persists.

WJ, the "casters are HF 1500 lb wheel dollys that I recessed the bottom of the wood cribbing to capture the acorn bolt heads. Gives me the height and easy movement.

Matt, the dash is what is left of a 46 Chevy pick-up dash after removing everything that didn't look like Model A. Yes the rear window will roll all the way down. That combined with the 32 style cowl vent will be my climate control.

KB Road trip!
